About the role

The Sample Technician works on a team with the Product Developer and the Designer through a process-oriented approach to refine and develop product initiatives as defined by the Head of Product. The Sample Technician is responsible for physical prototypes and is also a technical resource for the rest of the team regarding materials and construction.

Responsibilities

  • Physical assembly of development prototypes and reference samples
  • Provide feedback on builds, suggesting ways to streamline or simplify construction while preserving fit, function, and quality
  • Document build details such as type and quantity of raw materials, cut lengths, and sub-assembly stages
  • Submit build documentation to Product Development for inclusion in production documents
  • Verify accuracy of final BOM and SPEC before submission to factory
  • Create mock-ups and test units to explore new materials or constructions
  • Collaborate with the Designer to troubleshoot and resolve build problems
  • Maintain a tidy and orderly shop environment through tool/equipment maintenance, material labeling, and periodic cleaning
  • Lend technical expertise to Customer Service and Marketing inquiries
  • Advise Customer Service on product repair viability and execute repairs if required
  • Track raw material stock and notify Product Development for replenishment
  • Support product fulfillment (shipping) during high-volume periods or staff absences

Requirements

  • Broad knowledge of sewing materials and construction techniques
  • Hands-on sewing expertise
  • Familiarity with cut-and-sew manufacturing processes
  • Ability to measure in fractional inches and metric decimals
  • Basic understanding of sewing machine adjustment and maintenance
  • Willingness to explore new materials and constructions
  • Basic proficiency with Google Workspace (BOMs, SPECs) and spreadsheets (Microsoft Excel)
  • Attention to detail and accuracy over speed
  • Commitment to a positive work environment through cooperative and professional interactions
