About the role

We are looking for a Sample Receiving Technician located at 3688 Kinsman BLVD, Madison, WI 53704 USA. Your mission will be to handle sample entry, assign test codes, expedite sample release to operations for analysis, and manage laboratory shipping.

Responsibilities

  • Receive and log samples in preparation for analysis.
  • Review samples and any attached documentation to assign an identification number and enter information into the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
  • Prepare documentation as necessary.
  • Contact clients to obtain and clarify missing or unclear information, ensuring accurate identification of client code, test code, and sample contents.
  • Store samples appropriately until analysis is completed and dispose of extra samples properly.
  • Ensure sample integrity is maintained.
  • Prepare packages for pick-up by shipping vendors and follow procedures to send packages, maintaining all related documentation.
  • Prepare samples for shipment to other testing facilities when necessary and complete appropriate documentation.
  • Assist client service personnel with the development of customized client reports, including data collection, analysis, and report development.
  • Assist laboratory personnel with the preparation and analysis of samples.
  • Support corporate quality and continuous improvement processes, identifying departures from the quality system or test procedures and documenting observations.
  • Perform other related duties as needed.

Communication

The role involves regular contact with clients to verify or obtain missing information, as well as frequent interaction with operations and client service personnel to locate client samples.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma and 1+ year of relevant work experience, or equivalent work experience, or an Associate's degree.
  • Basic knowledge of computer operation skills to manipulate the keyboard while entering sample information into LIMS.
  • Basic knowledge of microbiology and chemistry to effectively assign proper sample and test codes.
  • Broad knowledge of personal computer software and data entry skills for inputting data into LIMS and generating reports.
  • Strong organizational skills to track samples and documentation.
  • Effective time management skills to ensure samples are quickly prepared for testing.
  • Written and oral communication skills to clarify test instructions with clients.
  • General office skills for faxing, filing, and related duties.

Skills

  • Ability to perform routine tasks in sample receiving and address problems using established procedures.
  • Review sample documentation to determine adequacy and appropriateness of provided information.
  • Make decisions on the accuracy and adequacy of sample information to ensure samples can be processed accurately.
  • Seek guidance from supervisors or clients when sample information is unclear or questionable.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • Work in a laboratory setting with controlled temperature and lighting.
  • Occasional exposure to laboratory fumes, chemicals, and materials.
  • Must lift sample packages ranging from 10-50 pounds.
  • Extended time spent in a standing position.
  • Physical dexterity required to manipulate a keyboard.
  • May require wearing a mask, laboratory coat, and insulated gloves.

Pay

$18.50 per hour.

Schedule

  • Tuesday - Saturday.
  • Start Time: 9 AM.
  • End Time: Once all samples are processed for the day (approximately 8-9 hour workday).
  • Full-time position.
