About the role
We are looking for a Sample Receiving Technician in Minnetonka, MN. Your mission will be to handle sample entry, assign test codes, expedite sample release to operations for analysis, and manage laboratory shipping.
Responsibilities
- Receive and log samples in preparation for analysis.
- Review samples and attached documentation to assign identification numbers and enter information into the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
- Prepare necessary documentation and contact clients to obtain or clarify missing or unclear information, ensuring accurate identification of client code, test code, and sample contents.
- Store samples appropriately until analysis is completed and dispose of extra samples while maintaining sample integrity.
- Prepare packages for pick-up by shipping vendors and follow procedures to send packages, maintaining all related documentation.
- Prepare samples for shipment to other testing facilities when necessary, completing and filing appropriate documentation.
- Assist client service personnel with the development of customized client reports, including data collection, analysis, and report development.
- Assist laboratory personnel with the preparation and analysis of samples.
- Support corporate quality and continuous improvement processes, identifying departures from the quality system or test procedures and documenting observations.
- Perform other related duties as needed.
Requirements
- Associate’s degree and 1+ year of relevant work experience, or equivalent work experience, or a Bachelor’s degree.
- Basic knowledge of computer operation skills to manipulate keyboard while entering sample information into LIMS.
- Basic knowledge of microbiology and chemistry is helpful for assigning proper sample and test codes.
- Broad knowledge of personal computer software and data entry skills to input data into LIMS and generate reports.
- Organizational skills to track samples and documentation.
- Time management skills to ensure samples are quickly prepared for testing.
- Written and oral communication skills to clarify test instructions with clients.
- General office skills for faxing, filing, and related duties.

- Performs routine tasks in sample receiving and addresses problems using established procedures.
- Reviews sample documentation to determine adequacy and appropriateness of information provided.
- Makes decisions on the accuracy and adequacy of sample information to determine if samples can be processed accurately.
- Seeks information from supervisors or clients if sample information is questionable.
- Works under regular supervision toward specific goals and objectives.
Work Environment
- Works in a laboratory setting with controlled temperature and lighting.
- Occasional exposure to laboratory fumes, chemicals, and materials.
- Must lift sample packages ranging from 10-50 pounds.
- Extended time spent in a standing position; physical dexterity required for keyboard manipulation.
- May require wearing a mask, laboratory coat, and insulated gloves.
Pay
$19.00 per hour USD.
