Sample Management Coordinator

About the role

Join a team of dedicated laboratory support professionals to participate in the development and management of a best-in-class sample and material management program. Leverage and develop your skills in material and sample handling to ensure procedures for collection, storage, and shipment of specimens follow industry best practices. Liaise with scientists and support staff under the direction of the onsite sample manager to ensure samples are available to scientists in a timely manner. Manage sample transfers and resolve discrepancies with central labs and other sample analysis or storage CROs. Serve as a key partner for Bioanalytical, Biomarkers, Diagnostics, and other internal stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the receipt and entry of materials that support inventory management of proteins, critical reagents, test articles, biological, and clinical samples.
  • Perform sample management tasks, including labeling, preparing for shipping, transporting to labs, inventory, and disposal.
  • Review and verify sample paperwork against samples to ensure accuracy and communicate discrepancies.
  • Maintain sample management binders and prepare documents for yearly archival.
  • Support team members as needed on various R&D projects.
  • Ensure compliance and accurate documentation in accordance with working instructions, SOPs, and applicable regulations.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma or GED is required; an Associate’s degree in a scientific discipline is preferred with 0-2 years of related work experience.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize effectively; detail-oriented and highly accurate.
  • Experience working in a laboratory environment.
  • Ability to establish strong working relationships and win the trust of others.
  • Self-motivated and interested in working in a complex environment.
  • Ability to effectively present information and assist others.
  • High level of proficiency in MS Office software including Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience.

Skills

  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Ability to independently manage multiple priorities and tasks.
  • Familiarity with accounting principles and transportation regulations.

Working Environment

  • Must be able to work in a laboratory, controlled environments requiring personal protective equipment (e.g., lab coat, safety glasses).
  • Job pace may be fast, and job completion demands may be high.
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position more than 25% of the time.
  • Occasionally move between labs, corridors, adjoining rooms, and buildings onsite.
  • Frequently operate instruments, objects, tools, or controls, requiring regular bending, squatting, stretching, and reaching.
  • Occasionally move or lift up to 25 pounds (potential for occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds).
  • Specific vision abilities required include close-range distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Must be able to operate a computer and other office machinery (e.g., calculator, copy machine, computer printer).
  • May be required to handle hazardous waste according to local, state, and federal regulations, including identifying, handling, generating, accumulating, storing, and labeling hazardous waste.
  • Potential risk to lab-based hazards including extreme temperatures, biological materials, and hazardous chemicals.
  • May be required to complete Medical Clearance, Respiratory Protection Training, and Fit Testing to wear a respirator as protection against hazards present in the laboratory environment.

Pay

The annual compensation range for this full-time position is $50,000 to $70,000. The final base pay offered will be determined by factors including internal equity, work location, as well as individual qualifications, such as job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
