Sales Representative
About the role
This Customer Service Representative role supports customers throughout the entire vehicle purchasing journey, from initial online or phone inquiries through to the point of sale. You engage directly with prospective buyers, help them identify the right new or pre-owned vehicle, coordinate appointments and test drives, and work closely with dealership staff to finalize the purchase and related paperwork. The position combines customer service, inside sales, and administrative duties in a fast-paced automotive retail environment.
Responsibilities
- Respond to customer inquiries about new and pre-owned vehicle inventory daily via telephone and internet.
- Answer customer emails and online responses promptly and professionally.
- Handle incoming sales calls and customer inquiries as they are received, ensuring timely follow-up.
- Determine each customer's vehicle needs by asking clear questions and actively listening to their preferences and concerns.
- Recommend alternative vehicle options when the initial choice is not available or not the best fit.
- Stay up to date on new products, features, accessories, and promotions, and proactively recommend them to customers.
- Make daily follow-up calls to customers according to a predetermined work plan.
- Maintain a structured follow-up system that encourages repeat and referral business and supports high levels of customer satisfaction.
- Maintain and consistently use a prospect development system to nurture potential customers.
- Schedule appointments for prospects to visit the showroom and ensure a smooth handoff to the in-person sales process.
- Meet with prospects during scheduled appointments to review vehicle choices and features, guide them through all steps of the sale, and finalize purchase details and paperwork with customers and dealership staff.
- Establish, implement, and maintain personal income goals that align with dealership productivity standards.
- Move vehicles from the lot to the front of the store when needed to prepare for customer test drives.
- Accompany customers on test drives and provide information and support during the experience.
- Answer incoming customer inquiries via phone and email in a courteous and efficient manner.
- Collaborate with internal teams to stay updated on new products, services, and dealership policies.
- Accurately record and update customer information within the customer service database.
- Engage with clients in a friendly, professional manner while actively listening to their concerns and providing appropriate solutions.
Requirements
- At least 2 years of face-to-face customer service or sales experience, preferably in retail or restaurant environments.
- Demonstrated ability to interact comfortably and professionally with customers in person, over the phone, and via email.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
- Strong customer service skills, including active listening, empathy, and clear communication.
- Ability and willingness to perform data entry tasks and accurately record customer information in a database.
- Comfort working in an inside sales or retail sales setting with direct customer contact.
- Professional demeanor and presentation in all customer interactions.
- Ability to manage multiple customer inquiries and follow-ups in a fast-paced environment.
- Goal-oriented mindset with the ability to set and work toward personal income and productivity objectives.
Additional qualifications
- Experience in automotive sales or dealership customer service is beneficial but not required.
- Familiarity with customer relationship management (CRM) or customer service databases is a plus.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail when managing appointments, follow-ups, and paperwork.
- Ability to learn and retain detailed information about vehicle models, features, accessories, and financing options.
- Comfort working in a commission-based environment after an initial hourly period.
- Motivation to grow within the dealership and pursue advancement opportunities based on performance.
Work environment
This role is based on-site at an automotive dealership and provides a dedicated cubicle with a phone and computer setup. You work as part of a close-knit team of customer service representatives and sales professionals in a collaborative, sales-driven environment. The dress code is business casual. The schedule includes two days per week from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., two days per week from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., and every Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. You receive one weekday off, which you coordinate with management along with which specific days you work the 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. shifts. The environment is fast-paced and customer-focused, with regular phone, email, and in-person interactions and access to dealership technology, inventory, and test drive vehicles.

Job type & location: Contract to Hire position based out of Jarrettown, PA. Fully onsite.
