Job Summary

The Sales Manager / Estimator leads the regional company's estimating efforts, providing strategic oversight, technical expertise, and guidance in evaluating project opportunities. This role is responsible for reviewing plans and specifications, developing detailed scopes of work, creating accurate cost estimates, and advising management on which project leads to pursue.

Duties And Essential Job Functions

  • Lead Evaluation & Opportunity Management
    • Monitor plan holder sites and other sources to evaluate project leads and identify opportunities aligned with company capabilities.
    • Collaborate with management to determine which projects and opportunities the company should pursue.
    • Conduct preliminary assessments of projects to evaluate feasibility, risks, and potential profitability.
  • Proposal Development & Estimating
    • Review project plans, specifications, and other documentation to develop detailed project scope and deliverables.
    • Prepare accurate, comprehensive estimates including labor, materials, subcontractor costs, and contingencies.
    • Create detailed proposal documents, including pricing, schedules, and technical approach summaries.
    • Collaborate with engineering, procurement, and operations teams to ensure estimates reflect current market conditions, resource availability, and company standards.
  • Leadership & Process Improvement
    • Provide guidance and mentorship to estimating staff, promoting consistent and accurate estimating practices.
    • Establish and maintain estimating standards, templates, and best practices.
    • Identify opportunities to improve estimating processes, workflow efficiency, and documentation accuracy.
    • Support the development of training programs and knowledge-sharing initiatives for the estimating team.
  • Client & Stakeholder Engagement
    • Participate in client meetings and pre-bid reviews as needed to clarify requirements and scope.
    • Communicate effectively with management and project teams regarding estimating assumptions, risks, and recommendations.
    • Absorb strategic decision-making regarding pursuing or declining project opportunities.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.
  • Skills: 10+ years of estimating experience in industrial systems integration, electrical, or controls projects, with progressive responsibility.
  • Strong knowledge of reading and interpreting plans, specifications, and technical documents.
  • Proven ability to develop detailed scopes of work and cost estimates.
  • Excellent leadership, mentoring, and team collaboration skills.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Proficiency with estimating software, spreadsheets, and project management tools.
  • Ability to balance multiple projects, prioritize workload, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
