Sales Engineer
Metalforms, recently acquired by the TransTech Group, is a leading provider of heat transfer solutions along the Gulf Coast Region. We design, fabricate, test, and maintain shell and tube heat exchangers and related process equipment for industries including energy, petrochemical, specialty chemical, renewables, biofuels, and industrial process sectors.
About the role
We are seeking a Sales Engineer to support our Beaumont, Texas facility, focusing on shell and tube heat exchangers. This role serves as a critical link between customers, the sales organization, estimating, engineering, and fabrication operations. The ideal candidate is self-driven, customer-focused, highly responsive, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment supporting both new fabrication and repair work.
Responsibilities
- Review customer inquiries, specifications, drawings, and supporting documents to define the required scope of work for new shell and tube heat exchangers, replacement components, repairs, and modifications.
- Work closely with the estimating team to develop accurate, competitive, and timely cost estimates and proposals.
- Identify technical and commercial requirements, clarify incomplete information, and coordinate with customers and internal stakeholders to resolve questions before quotation.
- Read and interpret fabrication drawings, general arrangement drawings, bills of material, customer specifications, and other technical documents.
- Support the preparation and presentation of proposals to end users, EPC firms, contractors, and other customers.
- Collaborate with engineering, quality, procurement, project management, welding, machining, and shop personnel to validate scope, material requirements, fabrication methods, schedules, and estimated labor hours.
- Evaluate repair inquiries and field-generated information to help define practical scopes for inspection, repair, alteration, retube, and refurbishment work.
- Communicate directly with customers to understand operational needs, explain proposed solutions, address technical and commercial questions, and support the overall sales process.
- Follow up on quotations, document customer feedback, and help move opportunities through the sales pipeline toward award.
- Apply sound judgment, urgency, and attention to detail while balancing multiple opportunities and changing priorities in a fast-paced fabrication environment.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, or a related technical field; equivalent relevant industry experience may be considered.
- Working knowledge of manufacturing and fabrication processes, preferably related to shell and tube heat exchangers or pressure vessels.
- Strong ability to collaborate with estimators and cross-functional teams to develop complete and accurate proposals.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
- Demonstrated ability to read and interpret fabrication drawings and technical documentation.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple active quotations and deadlines.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with customers and internal teams.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment supporting both new fabrication and repair work.
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with ASME Section VIII, TEMA standards, and applicable customer specifications.
- Knowledge of common materials used in shell and tube heat exchanger fabrication, including carbon steels, stainless steels, low-alloy steels, and nickel alloys.
- Experience with shell and tube heat exchangers, pressure vessels, exchanger components, or repair and alteration work.
- General understanding of the sales process, including opportunity qualification, proposal development, quotation follow-up, and customer relationship management.
- Exposure to refinery, petrochemical, chemical, midstream, or other industrial process facilities.
- Experience preparing technical and commercial proposals for end users, EPC firms, and contractors.
Full-time position based in Beaumont, TX, reporting to the Estimating Manager.
