Sales Consultant - Floorcovering

About the role
As a Sales Consultant in Floorcovering, you'll drive results by building strong customer relationships, presenting tailored solutions, and executing strategic sales plans. You’ll assist customers with product selection, create accurate price quotations and work orders, and ensure successful installations through project site visits and follow-ups. This role demands strong interpersonal, leadership, and business skills to grow market share and deliver exceptional customer experiences.
Duties involve contact with customers (including minors) and access to cash, payment methods, electronic equipment, personal information, store merchandise, and other items of value. A criminal-history review is required to protect the business, its operations, reputation, and the safety of customers, staff, and the public.
Responsibilities
- Collect reliable and accurate customer/project information to assess needs.
- Assist customers with product selections by evaluating fitness for use, design components, and performance expectations.
- Identify all necessary products and associated labor to assemble accurate price quotations, build thorough work orders, and ensure successful installations completed in accordance with customer expectations and manufacturer specifications.
- Provide customer design assistance (in-store or on project site).
- Conduct project/customer visits to complete work, gather information (measurements and relevant project conditions), and follow up to ensure quality of installation and customer satisfaction.
- Utilize the FC Hub Applications to record customer and project information and build detailed customer price quotations.
- Effectively use the store’s Point of Sale System to create accurate work orders, schedule work, and invoice customers.
- Conduct competitive product comparisons and identify current competitors’ strengths and weaknesses, as well as Sherwin-Williams/Carpet Land competitive advantages.
- Complete and present a territory SherPlan, making revisions and updates as necessary throughout the year.
- Develop a strategy to grow sales and profits, including following up on existing customer inquiries/quotations, reconnecting with owners/clients of past installations, and supporting facilities selling/marketing initiatives (partnering with outside sales reps).
- Maintain disciplined daily and weekly planning to maximize time and execute sales strategies.
Requirements
- Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the country of employment without needing sponsorship for an employment work visa now or in the future.
- Must have a valid, unrestricted Driver’s License.
- Must have at least a High School diploma or GED.
- Able to retrieve material from shelves and floor stacks and lift and carry up to 50 lbs. frequently and up to 100 lbs. on occasion, with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Able to operate a computer and communicate via telephone, with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Able to operate material handling equipment (e.g., hand truck, pallet jack, forklift) safely once trained, with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Able to operate floor-cutting equipment safely once trained, with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Willing to work all scheduled hours, which may include evenings and weekends, with or without reasonable accommodation.
Qualifications
- At least one (1) year of experience working in a delivery, retail, or customer service position (preferred).
- Previous work experience selling floorcovering and/or floorcovering products (preferred).
- Prior work experience operating floorcovering cutting equipment (preferred).
- Previous work experience installing floorcovering (preferred).
- Carpet and Vinyl Installation Certification by the Carpet and Rug Institute (preferred).
- Ability to read, write, comprehend, and communicate in more than one language (preferred).
- Ability to read, write, comprehend, and communicate in Spanish (preferred).
