About the role
As a Sales Clerk at the Coast Guard Exchange, you will deliver outstanding customer service, maintain product knowledge, and support retail operations in a part-time capacity (20-29 hrs/wk). This position is based at the Houston, TX Ellington Field Exchange.
Responsibilities
- Welcome customers and assist with merchandise selection, including demonstrating or explaining technical features of products.
- Address customer concerns promptly and provide exceptional service.
- Process sales transactions using cash, checks, credit/debit cards, and gift cards, ensuring accurate cash handling and till balancing at shift end.
- Maintain neat and presentable merchandise displays, replenish stock, and conduct periodic stock counts or inventories.
- Perform price changes (markdowns/markups), set up company promotions, and ensure proper signage and labeling.
- Follow all loss prevention policies, monitor shrink, and report concerns via the Alert Line.
- Adhere to established safety standards and emergency preparedness requirements.
- Communicate customer requests to supervisors and perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Ability to read, comprehend, and explain product literature.
- Basic math skills (counting, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) for stocking and inventory purposes, demonstrated by high school coursework, a GED, or high school diploma.
- Capability to routinely lift 10 pounds and occasionally lift 25 pounds, with the ability to stand for extended periods.
- Must be 21 years or older to apply.
