About the Role

Under the direction of the Director of Engineering, the Application/Sales Engineer will provide technical product design and integration to meet customer requirements. This position involves close collaboration with Nelson account managers, manufacturing engineers, and customer engineering teams to develop manufacturable solutions and troubleshoot issues.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with account management and customers to develop fluid flow system layouts and resolve system-level issues.
  • Act as the engineering face to the customer.
  • Design and integrate exhaust products/systems for on-highway and off-highway markets to meet customer requirements.
  • Generate and maintain detailed models of designs and system-level Bill of Materials.
  • Create specifications for products (2D prints, engineering specifications, etc.).
  • Initiate and coordinate technical support work, including mechanical design, FEA and CFD analyses, acoustical, flow and vibration testing, drafting, and prototypes to develop system components.
  • Work closely with manufacturing personnel to optimize designs for manufacturability and cost reduction.
  • Ensure Design for Manufacturability (DFM) is implemented in development (DQR, DVA, Design Reviews, etc.).
  • Maintain and manage project schedules.
  • Review, approve, and process customer print conformance.
  • Travel to customer and supplier sites as necessary (10-25% travel required) to perform on-site testing and present technology.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent educational degree.
  • Strong understanding of fluid mechanics and thermodynamics.
  • 3 to 5 years of experience in product design using solid modeling tools (Inventor preferred).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Basic understanding of acoustics.
  • Basic knowledge of vehicle chassis systems.
  • Basic knowledge of exhaust components/aftertreatment.
  • Six Sigma knowledge/skills.
  • Basic knowledge of .NET programming.
