Sales and Use Tax Specialist
Responsibilities
- Review exemption certificates for completeness, accuracy, and alignment with applicable state requirements
- Validate client tax documentation and confirm that exempt status is properly supported by current records
- Research state-specific sales and use tax exemption rules to determine whether submitted certificates meet compliance standards
- Support certificate processing activities tied to CERTifyTax implementation and related onboarding workflows
- Work with internal stakeholders to resolve missing, expired, or incorrect exemption documentation
- Maintain organized records of certificate reviews, validation results, and follow-up actions
- Aid in a high volume of sales tax certificate requests while meeting established deadlines
- Utilize platforms such as CERTifyTax, Vertex, or Avalara to review and manage exemption-related information
Requirements
- At least 2 years of experience in sales and use tax, tax compliance, or a closely related accounting function
- Prior experience reviewing, validating, and maintaining sales tax certificate documentation
- Familiarity with one or more tax technology platforms such as CERTifyTax, Vertex, or Avalara
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy when handling high-volume documentation
- Ability to work independently in a remote or distributed team environment
