About the Role

The Sales and Management Intern position’s primary responsibility is to fulfill our mission statement, “to create the most enjoyable shopping experience possible for our Guests.” Additionally, Sales and Management Interns perform a variety of sales, merchandising, and operational tasks assigned by store management. Work closely with the Store Manager to develop an understanding of how Buckle’s retail business works and what it takes to excel in management.

Responsibilities

  • Sales Generation and Guest Service
    • Greet Guests with a friendly, engaging attitude and provide legendary service.
    • Answer questions regarding the store and its merchandise; recommend, select, and help locate merchandise based on Guest needs.
    • Anticipate and fulfill Guest’s needs by suggesting additional items and creating a wardrobing experience.
    • Demonstrate product utilizing product knowledge and sales education, consistently sharing that knowledge with the team.
    • Maintain and share knowledge of current sales, promotions, policies, and security practices.
    • Achieve personal sales-per-hour, average sales, and total net sales goals set by Store Management.
    • Provide legendary service in key areas: Front 5, sales floor, fitting rooms, and register area.
    • Assist Guests with trying on or fitting merchandise; check out and bag purchases.
    • Prepare merchandise for alterations; knowledgeable of all exchange and return procedures.
    • Fill out and effectively use the Sales Presentation Guide (SPG) daily to accomplish goals.
    • Meet or exceed performance standards in business builders and guest loyalty (e.g., fit appointments, Buckle credit card, guest connect).
    • Place Special Orders or call other stores to find desired merchandise.
    • Maintain and build Guest relationships to develop a client-based business.
    • Consistently maintain high standards, whether or not the Manager is present.
  • Teammate Recruiting, Training, and Development
    • Recognize recruiting opportunities using Jobs & Careers cards, email referrals, and Teammate recommendations.
    • Maintain a positive attitude to foster a positive floor culture.
  • Visual Merchandise Management
    • Present merchandise to maximize sales and achieve optimum merchandise turn.
    • Stay current on product range and work with Teammates and Guests to identify product improvements and feedback.
    • Ensure the sales floor is consistently sized and new freight is appropriately displayed.
  • Operations
    • Work a flexible schedule, including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays (e.g., Thanksgiving, Christmas).
    • Open and close cash registers; perform tasks such as counting money, balancing cash drawers, and making deposits.
    • Watch for and recognize security risks and thefts; follow Loss Prevention guidelines, including daily bag and purse checks.
    • Develop and maintain knowledge of Point of Sale (POS) procedures and execute policies regarding payments, exchanges, and Loss Prevention.
    • Perform merchandising tasks, such as handling freight, re-merchandising, preparing displays, completing price markdowns, and transfers.
    • Maintain a clean, organized, and shoppable store.
    • Provide feedback to Store Manager and Leadership Team regarding merchandise handling concerns.
    • Communicate policy violations, Teammate, or Guest concerns to appropriate management in a timely, confidential manner.
    • Understand and apply Buckle’s Code of Ethics and all policies, procedures, and handbooks.
  • Internship Duties
    • Complete Teammate Orientation, Beginning Leadership, and Recruiting, Interviewing, and Hiring sections of the Buckle Management Manual.
    • Provide weekly reports and progress updates to the Area Manager and District Manager.
    • Develop an understanding of Buckle’s products, sales presentation, and merchandising process.
    • Manage a product category (e.g., denim, tops, accessories, shoes) by setting sales goals, educating teammates, and tracking results.
    • Lead and motivate the team using Performance Tracker for specific departments or company tools.
    • Develop recruiting, merchandising, and leadership skills.
    • Actively participate in monthly conference calls.
    • Take ownership of all required assignments within the Internship.
    • Fulfill the mission statement by performing job duties with high customer service while contributing to a positive team spirit.
    • Complete special projects and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • In pursuit of a Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university in a relevant field of study; no prior experience or training necessary.
  • Interested in a long-term commitment with Buckle.
  • No visa sponsorship is available.

Physical Demands

  • Regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, jump, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and talk or hear.
  • Occasionally required to sit.
  • Ability to lift and maneuver 50 lbs throughout the store and backroom.
  • Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

  • Regularly works in a retail store setting with a moderate noise level.
