About the role
The Housing Case Manager will assume a caseload of clients currently receiving housing assistance from KCRHA. The role provides supportive services to ensure clients remain stable in their housing placements while addressing issues that could jeopardize their housing. This position utilizes harm reduction and Housing First principles for low-barrier access to housing and services, supporting clients from diverse backgrounds with varying degrees of independence, mental stability, and/or active substance use.
The Housing Case Manager assists clients in securing additional resources for household items, personal needs, and reconnecting with health, financial, and employment services to improve overall health outcomes and foster self-sufficiency.
Responsibilities
- Build rapport with clients, identify strengths, and foster growth in self-sufficiency and resiliency to acquire stable housing.
- Understand the impact of the current housing crisis in the region and its significance on clients’ overall health and well-being.
- Support clients from diverse backgrounds with housing placement opportunities, including completing applications and paperwork.
- Provide ongoing support for formerly chronically unhoused clients transitioning from housing instability to stabilization.
- Advocate and support clients with housing integration and retention issues, addressing potential barriers to health and housing stability through case consultations, property and care team conferences, behavioral agreements, and navigating housing exits.
- Advocate for clients with property management to ensure successful housing placements, including responding to complaints, inquiries, and questions.
- Provide resource connections for physical health, mental health, substance use, and other supportive service needs.
- Deliver high-quality, culturally appropriate services while maintaining client service standards and expectations.
- Collect and secure documentation for program compliance and health & housing outcomes while ensuring confidentiality.
- Participate in individual supervision, team meetings, departmental activities, and agency initiatives.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in a social services field and:
- Two years of experience in direct social service or advocacy work, including assessing client needs and/or determining client benefit eligibility.
- Two years of proven experience working with marginalized populations facing chronic homelessness, substance use, and/or mental health instability.
- Or a combination of related education and work experience.
- Working knowledge or training related to Seattle/King County Landlord/Tenant Laws is a plus.
- Experience with harm reduction and Housing First principles within a trauma-informed framework.
- Ability to organize, prioritize multiple projects, and meet deadlines in a time-sensitive environment.
- Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy and demonstrated flexibility and adaptability.
- Understanding of professional boundaries.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Access, Word) and experience with electronic case noting, databases, and document storage. HMIS experience is helpful.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, including professional phone etiquette.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
- Ability to respond quickly to change and develop good working relationships with internal and external providers.
- Ability to work effectively under stressful conditions, exercising crisis management and de-escalation skills.
Work Environment
- Primarily located in leased apartment buildings, extended-stay motels, and scattered sites throughout King County, with some hybrid or outreach work.
- Requires availability to meet clients in office settings, their homes, or in the community.
- Regular desk work and computer use, combined with frequent client interaction both on-site and in the community.
- May involve travel to client homes, partner agencies, or community locations, with exposure to various environmental conditions.
- Requires sitting, standing, walking, bending, and reaching; occasional lifting of up to 20 pounds to transport materials or supplies.
- Work may occur in office, residential, or community settings, including outdoor conditions or environments with moderate noise.
- TB test required within 30 days of employment and annually, or as required by program.
- Passing a criminal background check is contingent for employment; some programs may require additional or more frequent background checks.

$23.46 - $35.79 hourly
Schedule
Full-time, non-exempt, union position. 100% on-site in Seattle’s Capitol Hill neighborhood, Tuesday - Saturday, 06:30 AM - 3:00 PM.
