Description Sheet'ka Rainforest Park is a cultural and natural destination that celebrates the beauty of Southeast Alaska and honors the heritage of the Tlingit people. Home to immersive experiences like Treetop Adventure Tours and Salmon Tales, our mission is to provide visitors with authentic connections to the land, the community, and the stories that make Sitka unique through guided tours, cultural programs, high-quality food and exceptional hospitality.

Responsibilities

  • Cultural Demonstrator - Artist Demonstration: Create and demonstrate traditional art forms such as carving, weaving, beadwork. Explain the cultural significance, history, and techniques behind each art form in an engaging and respectful manner. Offer interactive opportunities for guests when appropriate, ensuring a positive, culturally accurate, and educational experience.
  • Cultural Demonstrator - Subsistence Demonstrations: Demonstrate subsistence foods activities. Explain the cultural significance, techniques and traditional and modern use of Indigenous foods.
  • Cultural Demonstrator - Cultural Storytelling: Share compelling stories about history, culture, fishing, growing up in Sitka, or any stories that relate to life in Sitka. Present to large groups and then actively engage with guests during lunch service. Traditional stories are welcome as long as the teller has clan permission. Serve as an ambassador for local culture, ensuring every interaction reflects respect and authenticity.

Requirements

  • Minimum Candidate Requirements: Candidate must be able to work for any employer in the United States without work sponsorship. Candidate must have ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions. Candidate must be capable of standing for extended periods and lifting up to 35 lbs. Candidate must have commitment to cultural authenticity and respectful representation. Candidate must have 3+ months experience with the following: Demonstrated skill in indigenous Alaska art forms, storytelling, or subsistence food preparation techniques. Strong communication and storytelling abilities. Previous experience in cultural interpretation, education, or hospitality preferred.

General Responsibilities

  • Guest Engagement: Welcome and interact with guests in a warm, professional manner. Answer questions about local art, culture, and attractions, including Sheet'ka Salmon Tales and Treetop Adventure Tours. Promote Rainforest Park experiences and encourage deeper cultural participation.
  • Operational Support: Maintain a clean and organized demonstration area. Safely handle tools, materials, and supplies. Manage setup and breakdown for demonstrations.
  • Sell Artwork: Artist demonstrators may offer their artwork for sale during or after demonstrations, providing guests with authentic, locally made pieces to take home. Sales must align with park guidelines and reflect cultural authenticity and respect.

Work Environment

This is an in-person position in an office environment. Requires ability to provide clear, concise, accurate and timely communication, both verbally and in writing (100%). Requires ability to interact professionally with co-workers, management, and clients (100%). Occasional business travel may be required. Only requested and approved expenses will be covered by SAI.
