SAFTEY AND OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH SPECIALIST.

Responsibilities

• Plan, schedule, and conduct inspections, evaluations, and surveys of facilities, equipment, and operations at various locations to determine compliance with regulatory requirements.
• Develop instructions and procedures to establish technical and administrative safety and occupational health program requirements for review and approval.
• Advise managers, supervisors, and department heads on safety issues directly affecting facility operations, human-machine relationships, and work process safety principles and their application to employees within the workplace.
• Plan, coordinate, and conduct mishap and near-mishap investigations involving students, staff, and property.
• Provide command-wide safety training on a wide range of operations, including but not limited to: safety orientation for new command personnel and select students; holiday safety briefs; and training for department safety representatives and/or supervisors.
• Review plans and specifications for new facility construction, major alterations, or changes to safety and occupational health requirements.

Requirements

• Must be a U.S. Citizen.
• Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
• Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.
• New employees to the Department of the Navy will be required to successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check.
• Current federal employees applying for GS jobs must serve at least one year at the next lower grade level (time-in-grade requirement).
• Appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
• Males born after December 31, 1959, must be registered for Selective Service.
• Must obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty.
• May require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS locations, including remote or isolated sites. Must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods.
• Must complete training, obtain, and maintain a government credit card for travel and travel-related purchases.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must include:

• Leading and conducting technical inspections, hazardous and general surveys, as well as complex mishap investigations across diverse, high-hazard work environments to identify systematic risks and execute robust corrective actions.
• Developing, implementing, and managing comprehensive recreation and off-duty safety programs.
• Serving as the primary technical advisor to senior leadership on investigations and safety education, training, and mandatory compliance reporting procedures.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills.
