About the Role

The City of Safford is seeking a qualified Journeyman Lineman to join our Electric System team. This position is responsible for the construction, maintenance, and repair of the city’s electrical distribution system.

Responsibilities

• Install, maintain, and repair overhead and underground electrical distribution lines and equipment.
• Perform line work including setting poles, stringing wire, and installing transformers and other electrical apparatus.
• Troubleshoot and repair power outages and electrical system failures.
• Ensure compliance with safety regulations and procedures, including OSHA standards.
• Operate and maintain line trucks, bucket trucks, and other specialized equipment.
• Respond to emergency calls for power restoration.
• Perform routine inspections and maintenance of electrical infrastructure.
• Read and interpret electrical system maps, blueprints, and schematics.
• Work in various weather conditions and at heights as required.

Requirements

• Completion of a recognized apprenticeship program as a Journeyman Lineman or equivalent experience.
• Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) or ability to obtain one within a specified timeframe.
• Knowledge of electrical theory, National Electrical Safety Code (NESC), and OSHA regulations.
• Ability to work at heights and in confined spaces.
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
• Physical ability to perform demanding tasks, including lifting heavy equipment and working in adverse conditions.

Qualifications

• Experience with overhead and underground electrical distribution systems.
• Familiarity with hot-line tools and equipment.
• Experience with bucket trucks, digger derricks, and other line equipment.
• First Aid and CPR certification preferred.
