Job Description

The Bettis Atomic Power Laboratory Safety Training group is seeking an experienced, energetic, and motivated candidate with a passion for providing quality training in safety and industrial hygiene topical areas. As part of the instructor team, you will be a significant contributor to ensuring a safe work environment for our employees and to bolster the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program's commitment to a proactive occupational safety & health culture.

  • Develop and deliver engaging training materials, by a variety of means, and document all aspects of the training cycle.
  • Depending on the program taught, there may also be written and/or hands-on (practical) examinations to be developed and administered.
  • Operationalize Safety Training through the workforce by conducting initial and continuing training on various Safety and Industrial Hygiene topics.
  • Examples of training Topics to lead include; Forklift/Powered Industrial Truck Operator, Elevated Work & Authorize Fall Protection User, Confined Space, Hearing Conservation, Silica, Lead, Lock-out tag-out, Excavation, Electrical Safety, Engineering of High-Risk work, Hazard Analysis, additional safety training topics as required.
  • Validate workforce knowledge through developing and coordinating Drills.
  • Develop standard curriculum for use across the NNL program.
  • Develop and deliver recurring training programs.
  • Develop and conduct practical skills and qualification exams.
  • Conduct field surveillances/job site observations of work related to training delivered to validate knowledge retention and incorporate lessons learned into the continuing training cycle.
  • Become the subject matter expert on assigned topics.
  • Conduct peer reviews of development of materials and instructional delivery providing constructive feedback.

Required Combination Of Knowledge And Skill

  • A high school diploma or equivalent and 13 years of relevant experience; or
  • An associate’s degree from an accredited college or university in Education, technical, engineering; or science related field and 11 years of relevant experience; or
  • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Education, technical, engineering or science related field and 9 years of relevant experience; or
  • A master’s degree from an accredited college or university in Education, technical, engineering or science related field and 7 years of relevant experience; or
  • A doctorate degree from an accredited college or university in Education, technical, engineering or science related field and 3 years of relevant experience.

Preferred Skills

  • Prior experience in developing and delivering safety training, more specifically Forklift Operator/Powered Industrial Truck training and industrial hygiene topics based on established regulatory requirements.
  • Formal training background including Military Instructors Certified Safety Professional (CSP) and/or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) professional certifications.
  • Instructional design experience, Storyline or Articulate software programs used for Computer Based Training development.

Pay Range

$106,200.00 - $166,000.00 annually

Salary information provided is a general guideline only. Annual salary is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.
