About the role

The Safety Technician position at Graywolf Construction is responsible for supporting the company's safety initiatives at various jobsites. This role requires a minimum of 3 years of industrial construction experience and OSHA 30 certification within 6 months of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Work as a leader in the safety department, under the authority and direction of the Project Safety Manager
  • Set exemplary standards of ethics and stewardship of the company’s resources, support company philosophy, practice and goals, function as a team player, and maintain good communication with the Safety Department
  • Identify workplace safety hazards and take necessary corrective actions to eliminate or minimize them
  • Learn and implement the Zero Injury System of Safety Excellence
  • Learn basic concepts of subcontractor safety management
  • Learn basic construction techniques such as rigging, excavation, welding, electrical circuits, mechanical piping, steel erection, and concrete foundations
  • Draft Lessons Learned and Safety Alert documents for sharing throughout the organization
  • Attend weekly general safety meetings and daily operations coordination meetings
  • Conduct regular safety checks in the field
  • Participate in site inspections and testing as necessary for required permits, including confined space, hot work, rigging, and trenching
  • Maintain jobsite first aid and emergency response supplies
  • Learn basic emergency preparedness requirements on a large construction project
  • Learn the critical aspects of injury case management as it relates to OSHA Recordkeeping

Qualifications & Required Skills

  • Minimum of 3 years of industrial construction experience
  • Obtain OSHA 30 certification within 6 months of hire
  • A high school diploma or GED is required
  • Active listening skills
  • Enthusiasm to learn
  • Must be flexible to accommodate work in the office and field
  • Willingness to grow as a public speaker
  • Basic knowledge of the 1904 OSHA Recordkeeping standard

Physical/Site Requirements

  • Lift and carry heavy items weighing up to 45 pounds
  • Move in and around confined and cluttered places, and uneven areas
  • Full range of motion and flexibility consistent with age
  • Work up to a 12-hour shift in varying temperature extremes and other outside conditions
  • Climb and maintain balance on steel framework, stairs, ladders, and scaffolds
  • Work at heights with fall protection, work from manlifts, baskets, JLG’s etc.
  • PPE footwear/prescription safety glasses or eye shields required
