About the Role

The Safety Tech facilitates the company’s respirable dust sampling program in accordance with MSHA respirable dust regulations. This role supports a safe, efficient, and profitable 24/7 continuous mining operation across three shifts.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate the operation’s respirable dust sampling program and health programs in compliance with MSHA respirable dust regulations.
  • Work with operations management and safety staff to collect respirable dust samples and maintain compliance.
  • Use PDM (Personal Dust Monitor) and gravimetric dust pumps to collect and submit required respirable dust samples for Designated Occupations (DO’s), Other Designated Occupations (ODO’s), Designated Areas (DA’s), and Designated Work Positions (DWP’s).
  • Maintain all respirable dust sampling instruments.
  • Assist in training miners on Mine Ventilation plan respirable dust requirements, PDM usage, dust sampling requirements, PPE, and best practices for reducing exposure to respirable dust.
  • Maintain an effective respirable dust sampling program and relationship with MSHA and other government agency representatives.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of dust control measures on sections and communicate procedural or equipment improvements to management.
  • Monitor and audit required shift dust record books and other records to ensure compliance with MSHA dust regulations.
  • Stay current with newly promulgated MSHA rules and Program Policy Letters, assisting operations in understanding and complying with them efficiently.
  • Conduct all work activities in compliance with Federal and State laws and Company policies.

Requirements

  • Thorough understanding of safety principles, federal and state mining laws, occupational health regulations, and basic computer skills.
  • Minimum 4 years of mining experience.
  • PDM certification (or ability to obtain certification).
  • MSHA limited or unlimited instructor card (or ability to obtain certification).
  • PA Assistant Mine Foreman or PA Mine Foreman Certification (or ability to obtain within six months of hire).

Qualifications

Preferred: BS Degree in Safety Management or a related field.
