About the role
We are seeking a Safety Supervisor to join our Health and Safety Team at Thacker Pass. This role serves as the on-site safety leader for day-to-day H&S operations, working directly with frontline teams to ensure compliance, promote a strong safety culture, and drive continuous improvement.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary on-site safety point of contact for Thacker Pass day-to-day operations, providing direct oversight and visible safety leadership across all work areas.
- Supervise Safety Specialists, providing guidance, task delegation, performance feedback, and professional development support.
- Partner with the Safety Manager to implement site-level safety programs, ensuring alignment with LAC-wide standards and regulatory requirements.
- Represent the Safety Manager on site in their absence, serving as the acting safety authority for operational decisions.
- Collaborate with operations supervisors, contractors, and department leads to proactively identify and mitigate hazards before work begins.
- Chair or facilitate daily and weekly safety meetings, toolbox talks, and pre-task planning sessions with frontline teams.
- Ensure day-to-day site compliance with MSHA and OSHA requirements; coordinate with the Safety Manager on regulatory strategy and agency interactions.
- Manage the site Safe Work Permit system, including Confined Space Entry, Lockout/Tagout, Hot Work, and Excavation permits, ensuring proper issuance, execution, and closure.
- Conduct regular safety walk-throughs, inspections, and audits of facilities, equipment, and emergency systems; document findings and drive timely corrective actions to closure.
- Support the Safety Manager in maintaining required safety compliance documentation, records, and regulatory submissions.
- Coordinate and oversee onboarding safety orientation for new employees, contractors, and site visitors.
- Develop, schedule, and deliver MSHA/OSHA required training for employees, contractors, and visitors; maintain complete and accurate training records and verification.
- Lead the timely investigation of incidents and near-misses, identifying root causes and implementing corrective and preventive actions with documented closure.
- Maintain and report on safety performance metrics and leading indicators; escalate trends and concerns to the Safety Manager.
- Drive continuous improvement projects to enhance safety performance and reduce risk exposure at Thacker Pass.
- Participate in internal audit programs and support the development and tracking of corrective action plans.
- Support the development and maintenance of the Site Emergency Response Plan under the direction of the Safety Manager.
- Participate in and help the Emergency Response Coordinator with any Emergency Response training, drills, and readiness activities on site.
- Serve as an on-site emergency coordinator during incidents, escalating to the Safety Manager and site leadership as appropriate.

Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety, science, or a technical discipline related to health and safety, or equivalent relevant work experience.
- Minimum 5 years of progressive safety experience in the chemical, mining, mineral processing, or oil and gas industry, including at least 2 years in a supervisory or lead safety role.
- Working knowledge of U.S. and Nevada OSHA and/or MSHA regulations; experience in an OSHA Process Safety Management (PSM) facility is strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to supervise and develop safety personnel and work effectively with frontline operations teams.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to deliver effective safety training and engage diverse audiences.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and safety management software.
- Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification or State First Responders' certification is a plus.
- Certified Mine Safety Professional (CMSP), Certified Safety Professional (CSP), or working toward certification is a plus.
