About the role
The safety supervisor at Hilmar Cheese Company is responsible for ensuring compliance with safety regulations and promoting a culture of continuous improvement. They will assist in implementing safety programs, conducting inspections, and supporting various safety initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Understand and assist in complying with federal, state, and local safety regulatory requirements.
- Conduct in-depth injury and near-miss root cause analyses and facilitate hazard corrections.
- Track and support the completion of corrective action items.
- Enter timely and accurate information into appropriate databases.
- Conduct inspections of production facilities and processes to ensure a hazard-free workplace.
- Provide guidance, support, and oversight to departmental safety teams.
- Review Safety Team Minutes, inspection reports, action logs, and follow up as necessary.
- Collect, analyze, track, and support departments in initiating employee safety suggestions and observations.
- Conduct, review, and track required safety trainings for site personnel and contractors.
- Serve as a responding member of the Emergency Response Team.
- Collaborate with Environmental and PSM Hazard Communication Program elements.
- Maintain electronic SDS database and participate in chemical supplier inventory meetings.
- Coordinate partnerships with service providers for fire extinguisher maintenance, biohazardous waste pickup, etc.
- Support the Occupational Health Services Administrator and gather necessary Workers Compensation documents.
- Maintain compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Periodically conduct a blind audit of plant trainers' safety content.
- Engage with employees on the production floor.
Requirements
- A high school diploma and 4 years related experience, or an Associate's degree and 3 years related experience, or a Bachelor's degree and 1 year of related experience.
- Familiarity with effective Behavior Based Safety concepts.
- Ability to learn new or technical safety principles and incorporate them into self-development.
- Demonstrated leadership, critical thinking, interpersonal, time management, and organizational skills.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Outlook).
- Ability to work non-traditional hours and be on-call as needed.
What Will Put You Ahead
- Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Engineering, or other related field.
- Experience in a food-manufacturing environment.
- Experience in a leadership role and/or applicable safety experience in a manufacturing setting.
- Experience in facilitating program and initiative success.
- Previous safety professional role experience.
Physical Demands & Work Environment
- Periods of time spent sedentary in an office environment, balanced with frequent occasions requiring prolonged walking or standing.
- Required to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and have a regular presence in manufacturing and warehouse environments in both temperature-controlled and uncontrolled locations.
- Must frequently interact with people verbally.
Salary Range
USD ($68,879.00 - $103,319.00) Annually
