Essential Responsibilities
- Oversee and enforce Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) at construction sites according to guidelines from the Corporate Safety Director and CMS Health and Safety policies.
- Oversee the management of time and resources while providing safety leadership for the assigned projects.
- Evaluate project safety practices and exposures, create action plans to mitigate risks, and enhance safety awareness within the project team.
- Communicate requirements for improving performance to project leadership and team for adoption and adherence to changes, using project-specific safety standards, best management practices, and EH&S policies and procedures.
- Create site-specific training for project management, employees, subcontractors, and CMS personnel on Health and Safety programs, policies, and safe work practices.
- Identify unsafe actions and conditions, and work with the project team to implement corrective actions per CMS, federal, state, local, USACE regulations, and owner requirements.
- Conduct practical worker orientation for new employees; administer and record participation.
- Collaborate with project leadership to create project-specific safety reports, assess metrics, and make recommendations for improvement over baseline.
- Conduct and review the project team’s safety audits, assess recommended corrective actions, and issue reports of violations and/or unsafe practices for immediate resolution.
Required Skills
- Working knowledge and consistent application of safety and environmental principles and techniques
- Ability to identify known and potential safety-related exposures and lead implementation of corrective actions
- Familiar with general construction operations and phasing
- Demonstrate elements of leadership from within, teamwork, and interpersonal skills to build teams and professional relationships
- Skilled in technical writing and authoring site-specific plan development
- Experience working with EHS Management Software
- Professional verbal and written communication skills and effective presentation delivery skills
- Exceptional organizational skills with close attention to detail
- Analytical thinking, good judgment, and complex problem-solving skills
Education and Experience
- Associate or bachelor’s Degree from an accredited degree program in Occupational Safety & Health, Engineering, or related field of study, and a minimum of 5 years of related construction safety experience, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
- Construction Health Safety Technician (CHST) certification required or within 2 years of appointment
- Completed OSHA 30-hour training and maintain current First Aid/CPR/BBP and AED certifications
- Knowledgeable of Federal, State, local, and USACE Environmental Health & Safety regulations
