About the Role

The Safety Specialist II supports the Project Team in developing and sustaining an Incident and Injury Free Culture (IIFC). This role ensures compliance with federal, state, and local safety regulations and provides technical support to the Project Team, including collaborating on a strong Project Safety Roadmap. The position reports to the assigned Project Safety Manager, Senior Project Safety Manager, or Area Safety Manager.

Responsibilities

  • Support Crew Foreman/General Foremen with quality safety planning.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of safety programs through daily field walks and log observations in the leading indicator system.
  • Meet regularly with field personnel to develop project-specific corrective action plans addressing safety issues.
  • Provide constructive feedback to project leadership on areas for safety improvement and recognition.
  • Coach employees exhibiting unsafe behaviors and recognize those demonstrating safe behaviors.
  • Assist with job site-specific safety orientations for new employees.
  • Assist and co-facilitate basic safety training and testing (e.g., HazCom, Fall Protection, Lockout/Tag-out).
  • Support Project Leadership in completing incident investigations and facilitate all injury/illness cases.
  • Perform periodic evaluations of power tools and equipment (e.g., scissor lifts, forklifts, fall protection) to ensure proper maintenance.
  • Monitor and evaluate CEI/Subcontractor compliance with safety regulations and project requirements, escalating risks to Safety leadership.
  • Support the development and execution of weekly toolbox safety meetings.
  • Attend daily safety meetings to:
    • Ensure meetings occur daily.
    • Audit continuity of discussion topics.
    • Evaluate crew participation and foreman engagement.
    • Provide feedback to Project Leadership on meeting effectiveness.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of the Flex & Stretch Program.
  • Assess whether Foremen, General Foremen, and Superintendents follow program elements for safety planning.

Requirements

  • Understanding of electrical industry consensus standards such as NFPA, NESC, ASTM, and ANSI.
  • Experience with a union workforce desired.
  • Ability to work independently after receiving direction and training.
  • Strong relationship-building skills with key stakeholders.
  • Good organization and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel).
  • Bilingual proficiency preferred.

Work Environment

  • Work involves standing, walking, sitting, climbing, typing, carrying, pushing, and bending.
  • Conducted in both indoor office settings and outdoor construction job sites with varying environmental conditions.
  • Ability to drive throughout expansive work sites (via buggy, car, truck, etc.) with a valid driver’s license and no restrictions.
  • Occasional work at heights, in confined spaces, and lifting up to 40 pounds.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • OSHA 30 Construction certification required.
  • CPR/First Aid Certified (Trainer Preferred).
  • STS and STSC certification preferred; other safety certifications desired.
  • One (1) to three (3) years of construction safety experience (electrical safety experience preferred).
  • Valid state-issued driver’s license and satisfactory driving record.
  • Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States; sponsorship is not available.

Pay

$33.00/hour to $45.00/hour. Final determination of starting pay will vary based on factors such as market location, job-related knowledge, skills, education, and experience.
