About the role
We are seeking a Safety Specialist to support the implementation and continuous improvement of the site's Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) programs within a manufacturing environment. This position works closely with operations, supervisors, and employees to promote a safe workplace, identify hazards, support compliance initiatives, and foster a proactive safety culture.
Responsibilities
- Support implementation of site HSE policies, procedures, and initiatives.
- Aid in maintaining compliance with federal, state, and local safety regulations.
- Participate in the development and continuous improvement of safety programs and procedures.
- Conduct routine safety inspections, observations, and workplace assessments.
- Identify unsafe conditions, behaviors, and hazards.
- Partner with operations to implement corrective actions.
- Participate in Job Safety Analysis (JSA), risk assessments, and hazard mitigation activities.
- Promote proactive reporting of near misses, hazards, and safety concerns.
- Encourage employee participation in safety initiatives, observations, and meetings.
- Reinforce compliance with Life Saving Commitments, site procedures, and PPE requirements.
- Maintain a regular presence on the production floor to coach and support employees.
- Build strong working relationships with employees and supervisors.
- Support new hire safety orientation and onboarding.
- Aid in delivering safety training sessions and toolbox talks.
- Assist with investigations of incidents, injuries, near misses, and property damage.
- Collect data, conduct interviews, and document findings.
- Support root cause analysis and development of corrective actions.
- Maintain accurate incident records and documentation.
Qualifications
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health, Industrial Technology, Engineering, or related field.
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification (strongly preferred).
- First Aid / CPR certification required.
- Minimum of 2–4 years of experience in a safety-related role, preferably in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
- Experience participating in incident investigations, audits, or safety committees.
- Occupational health experience preferred but not required.
- Experience with pipe manufacturing or metal fabrication processes is a plus.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong knowledge of OSHA standards and applicable safety regulations.
- Familiarity with industrial safety practices and procedures.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to lead training sessions and conduct incident investigations.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Effective documentation and reporting abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
