Responsibilities & Duties
- Provides coaching and subject matter expertise to the site’s management and employees in all matters related to H&S including all potential losses.
- Performs as an integral member of the site’s management team and leads the site in the execution of H&S strategy.
- Promotes Continuous Improvement Culture and Cross Functional Teams.
- Affords oversight of the site’s H&S management system, processes and programs to ensure continuous improvement as well as regulatory and company compliance.
- Continually engages employees to ensure the desired H&S behaviors are being demonstrated at all levels of the organization.
- Affords assistance in minimizing losses including, but not limited to, assisting with managing workers’ compensation claims, property damage, business interruption, and unexpected costs.
Job Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree, preferably, (but not required) in H&S related field, or equivalent experience and training, is preferred.
- Professional certification such as Certified Mine Safety Specialist, or Certified Safety Professional, is a plus.
- Minimum five years of progressive H&S experience, preferably in a mining, manufacturing or construction environment.
- Experience with OSHA, MSHA, or other similar regulatory agencies is required.
- Proficient computer skills and working with Microsoft Office software including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint is a must.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and set priorities appropriately.
- Fluency in spoken and written English. Fluency in Spanish is a plus.
- Experience working with employees who are part of a unionized labor force.
- Must be able to support a continuous improvement environment as well as change management initiatives.
- Able to travel regularly to cover assigned locations.
- Able to develop and conduct training programs.
- Excellent organization, conflict resolution, communication and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work autonomously, challenge status quo, and initiate change.
