Job Title: Safety Specialist Job Description This Safety Specialist role supports construction activities on a major cancer center project, working closely with the Safety Manager, project leadership, subcontractors, and field personnel to foster a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with company, client, and regulatory safety requirements. The Safety Specialist spends most of the workday in the field conducting inspections, audits, safety observations, training, and incident investigations, while also handling key administrative safety functions such as documentation, reporting, and recordkeeping. Responsibilities Promote and reinforce a strong safety culture across the project site by partnering with the Safety Manager, project leadership, subcontractors, and field personnel.Conduct regular field safety inspections and audits to identify hazards, verify compliance, and drive continuous improvement in safety performance.Perform safety observations in the field, document findings, and communicate corrective actions to relevant stakeholders.Lead or support incident investigations, including gathering facts, identifying root causes, and recommending corrective and preventive actions.Deliver safety training to project staff and subcontractors, ensuring workers understand and follow company, client, and regulatory safety requirements.Support and maintain safety documentation, including inspection reports, training records, incident reports, and other required safety records.Assist with safety reporting to project leadership and other stakeholders, summarizing trends, issues, and corrective measures.Collaborate with construction teams to plan work activities with safety in mind, especially in complex environments such as healthcare facilities.Ensure adherence to construction safety standards and best practices across all phases of the project.Coordinate with subcontractors to verify their compliance with project-specific safety requirements and procedures. Essential Skills CHST Certification, typically supported by 4+ years of experience in safety roles.Strong construction safety experience, with hands-on experience in active construction environments.Demonstrated experience in construction safety inspections, audits, and field observations.Experience delivering safety training to construction teams and subcontractors.Ability to conduct and support incident investigations, including documentation and follow-up.Knowledge of applicable safety regulations and standards relevant to construction projects.Strong communication skills to effectively engage with field personnel, subcontractors, and project leadership.Solid organizational skills for managing documentation, reporting, and recordkeeping. Additional Skills & Qualifications Certified Safety Professional (CSP) designation is beneficial.Experience working on hospital or healthcare construction projects.Experience in commercial construction environments.Familiarity with mechanical, plumbing, and medical gas systems construction is an advantage.Experience in projects involving healthcare, higher education, industrial, design-build expansions, renovations, or other high-tech vertical markets. Work Environment This role is based on a large cancer center construction project with approximately 120–150 employees on site. The Safety Specialist spends the majority of time in the field, actively engaging with crews and subcontractors in a dynamic construction environment. The project involves complex building systems, including mechanical, plumbing, and medical gas installations, and may include work in healthcare and other high-tech settings. The position offers 10 days of paid time off and 6 federal holidays while on contract. The work environment emphasizes collaboration, technical excellence, and a strong commitment to safety across all project activities. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Lexington, KY. Pay And Benefits The pay range for this position is $43.26 - $62.50/hr.
