Safety Specialist A

Description of Responsibilities

• Provides OSHA, HAZMAT, HAZWASTE, and other related EHS training to employees.
• Aid in providing technical safety guidance to employees and supervisors.
• Collect ship and coordinate lead, soil, water, oil, fuel, and asbestos samples for analysis.
• Maintain and document results.
• Certify, sign and ship Hazmat and Hazardous Waste (HW).
• Handle HW operations, proper documents, and shipment of hazardous waste from "cradle to grave."
• Prepare reports IAW State and federal laws, Koa Lani PMRF policies and procedures.
• Audit facilities and operations IAW OSHA guidelines and monitor follow-up for deficiencies.
• Research and furnish SDS to tenants, government, and employees as required.
• Provide personal protective equipment and/or research and procure for additional equipment as needed.
• Member of the Spill Response Team and Certified as Incident Commander or equivalent.
• Perform work in high heat/outdoor weather conditions.

Requirements

• Required Degree/Education/Certification: High School or equivalent, Bachelor's Degree or in the Environmental, Safety & Health fields, Job related experience may be substituted for education.
• OSHA 40-Hour HAZWOPER Training, OSHA 500 Courses, EPA Environmental Education, FEMA Emergency Management, HAZMAT Technician Level IV, 40 CFR RCRA Hazardous Waste Management Initial Training, 40 CFR DOT HAZ-MAT Shipping Training and 44 CFR FEMA ICS-200.
• Valid state driver’s license.

Skills and Experience

• At least three (3) years of experience in the Environmental, Health and Safety field.
• At least one year of experience in Hazardous Waste Management.
• Familiarity with Navy’s Safety & Environmental Policies.
• Capable of operating a forklift.
• Basic typing skills and ability to prepare typewritten documents.
• PC skills: Word, Excel, Outlook.

Citizenship and Clearance

• Must be a U.S. Citizen.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
