Safety & Security Officer Trainee - Rochester General Hospital (RGH), Security (Per Diem, As Needed)

About the role

As a Security Officer, you patrol and protect the facility, grounds, and building to preserve the peace and make employees feel safe and secure. Position is Per Diem, located at Rochester General Hospital (RGH), 1425 Portland Avenue, Rochester, NY 14621.

Responsibilities

• Investigation & Safety: Investigate cases of detected or reported criminal and safety matters; identify and report real or potential hazards in the environment; transfer and discharge patients as requested.
• Parking Management: Monitor and control hospital employee and visitor parking areas.
• Ensure Safety and Security: Maintain a visible security presence, respond to routine and emergency incidents, patrol facilities, and prevent unauthorized access or disturbances.
• Access and Visitor Control: Monitor entrances and exits, assist and screen visitors, and ensure proper admittance processes are followed.
• Incident Response: Respond to and manage incidents involving violence, hazards, or emergencies; protect evidence and communicate effectively with appropriate personnel.
• Customer Service: Provide respectful, courteous interactions with patients, staff, and visitors while representing the organization professionally.
• Compliance and Conduct: Uphold grooming and uniform standards, identify safety hazards, demonstrate age-related care competency, and perform additional duties as needed.

Requirements

• One year of guard or public safety experience required.
• Demonstrated professionalism.
• Ability to think quickly and make decisive judgments.
• Ability to remain calm in high-stress situations.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• NYS Security Guard License required.
• Valid NYS Driver’s License.
• Physical Requirements: Heavy work including lifting up to 100 lbs., climbing ladders, crawling into tight spaces, working on uneven, slippery, or elevated surfaces; requires strong motor coordination, balance, spatial awareness, high visual and auditory alertness; moderate emotional demands; exposure to extreme temperatures, dust, fumes, loud noise, mechanical hazards; PPE and periodic physical exams may be required.

Pay

Pay range: $21.00 - $21.00 per hour (base pay for full‑time applicant; subject to experience, qualifications, internal equity, location, and contracts).

Schedule

Varying shifts, 24‑hour operations.
