Safety Partner - Emergency Department (ED)

About the role

Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital Emergency Department is hiring a Safety Partner to assist with providing a safe hospital environment for patients at risk of suicide, falls, wandering, agitation, impulsiveness, self-harm, or other risk behaviors. This role supports individualized patient care, enabling patients to maintain or enhance function during their hospital stay.

Unit Description: This is a 41-bed Level III Trauma ED with 6 beds dedicated to a lockdown psychiatric screening and treatment area. The department is stroke-certified and receives STEMI and psychiatric patients. The ED treats about 150 patients per day and includes a dedicated radiology suite for plain film and CT imaging.

Responsibilities

• Assist in maintaining a safe hospital environment for patients with behavioral risks
• Support individualized patient care to enhance or maintain patient function during hospital stay
• Apply core competencies including communication, confidentiality, de-escalation, fall prevention, patient safety, restraints, stroke awareness, and suicide prevention

Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent
• BLS certification required within 90 days of hire
• Prior healthcare experience or enrollment in a health sciences program strongly preferred
• Background in mental health/behavioral health is a plus

Schedule

Full-time (36 hours per week) – Weekend Nights (Friday–Sunday), 7:00 PM–7:00 AM
