Job Profile Summary
Identifies opportunities to address safety issues, conducts safety training, and provides intermediate to complex consultation to ensure operations are performed safely and in compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations and standards. May oversee the work of others. Participates in, or leads emergency response activities.
Essential Duties
- Conducts site visits to audit, provide consultation and inspections of university facilities using hazardous materials including: biological, chemical, lasers, and radiological materials, to ensure compliance with federal, state, local regulations, codes, and university requirements.
- Develops and implements pollution prevention programs and sustainability activities to support university goals.
- Interprets and ensures effectiveness of specific methodology and key performance indicators for the department including the effectiveness of safety education.
- Investigates and remediates problems with the safe and legal handling of hazardous materials.
- Trains staff to take measurements and prepares required reports for tracking, decision-making and/or compliance requirements.
- Communicates with customers on safety-related matters.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of chemistry, hazardous materials, inventory management, monitoring equipment, and response procedures to investigate incidents, monitor a variety of situations, maintain records and generate reports.
- Knowledge of modern radiation principles related to the recognition, prevention and control of radiation health hazards both ionizing and non-ionizing.
- Skill in maintaining effective working relationships.

- Ability to understand and use enterprise systems.
