About the Role
The Safety & Operations Coordinator is responsible for maintaining the Safety and VPP programs for Wieland Metal Services in Warwick, RI. This role involves developing and maintaining communication with hourly and salaried employees, supporting the Corporate EH&S Manager, and driving key safety initiatives across all Wieland locations. This is a fully on-site position based in Warwick, RI.
Responsibilities
- Implement and maintain a safety program aligned with OSHA and company guidelines, fostering a “Safety First” culture.
- Drive, prepare for, and maintain the VPP Star status initiative.
- Conduct analyses of occupational incidents, injuries, property damage, hazard reports, and near misses as part of regular compliance safety reviews.
- Identify, evaluate, and assist in correcting health and safety hazards.
- Provide guidance and assistance in performing risk assessments of work and processes.
- Deliver training and materials to ensure safe and healthy work practices.
- Analyze injury and illness reports, monitoring data for trends.
- Assist in incident and accident investigations.
- Monitor compliance with OHSMS, including health and safety statutes, regulations, and organizational policies.
- Note instances of noncompliance and recommend improvements to the OHSMS.
- Pursue professional development activities.
- Coordinate key safety and health improvement initiatives (VPP).
- Establish, chair, and coordinate safety teams/committees (e.g., Ergonomics Team, Housekeeping Team, First Responder Team, Safety Inspection Team, Accident Investigation Team, Area Safety Representative Team).
- Encourage supervisors and foremen to allow employee volunteers to serve on teams/committees.
- Solicit employee input on selecting PPE and training topics.
- Recruit employees to conduct area inspections for the Warwick site.
- Coordinate monthly inspections and training for the Warwick site.
- Manage and maintain Safety Data Sheets for the Warwick site.
- Manage and distribute safety alerts (First Aid, Near Misses, Property Damage, Recordables, and Incident Investigations) for the Warwick site.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent (preferred).
- Minimum of one year of experience supporting safety and health programs in manufacturing sites.
- Excellent organization and follow-through skills.
- Able to work independently and prioritize multiple projects under pressure to meet deadlines.
- Detail-oriented with a focus on accuracy and timeliness.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding employee information and records.
