Responsibilities
- Implements, monitors and enforces the Safety Management Program based on applicable law, regulations and accepted practice.
- Ensures that the organization is compliant with assigned accreditation body standards including applicable federal, state and local requirements.
- Supports the ongoing organization-wide process to collect and analyze information about deficiencies and opportunities for improvement.
- Maintains training records and all other safety related compliance documentation.
- Helps the manager prepare reports for leadership and outside regulatory agencies.
- Helps the manager represent the hospital to regulatory agencies such as DNV, OSHA, EPA, FAA and CAMTS etc. as applicable.
- Implements, monitors and tracks the safety committee recommendations and monitors the effectiveness of the implemented recommendations.
- Serves as a resource to units and departments in developing local safety plans, safe working habits and maintaining a safe working environment.
- Responds to employee safety concerns, including participation in incident response activities and related communication, develops corrective actions, and ensures appropriate follow-up.
- May consult with staff and employees on a variety of safety issues, concerns and policies including but not limited to waste management, hazardous material management and control.
- May perform emergency preparedness drills and exercises.
- May develop and deliver emergency preparedness and disaster-related training for employees and staff.
- May participate in incident response activities beyond routine safety concern management (as applicable to the department).
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in safety-related field, Business, Hospital Administration, a related field, or the equivalency.
- Two years of experience coordinating a safety program, or related experience.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of accreditation agency requirements and other applicable federal, state and local regulatory law.
- Basic computer skills including MS Word, Excel, and Power Point.
- Effective communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to form collaborative partnerships while also holding leaders, staff and employee accountable.
- Solid organizational skills and knows how to manage prioritize.
- Excellent listening skills and the ability to provide as well as follow direction / instructions.
