Safety Monitor

Location: Normal Community West High School

Reports to: Principal/Assistant Principal

Duties

• Provide security for the school staff, students, buildings, and property through patrol of school building(s) and building perimeters including parking lots to prevent unauthorized visitors or property damage and to provide for general building security.
• Detect, investigate, and report unauthorized suspicious persons, vehicles, and activities to building administration/SRO.
• Assist the administration and School Resource Officer(s) in security inspections of the facility. Once identified, make recommendations to correct security issues to administration/SRO.
• Provide supervision of instructional and/or non-instructional areas as determined by the administration.
• Assist administration/EOPs with the "checking in" of students to the building.
• Assist administration with student discipline as requested by building administration.
• Maintain security records, logs, or reports as requested by the building administration.
• Read and respond to email communication appropriately.
• Model nondiscriminatory practices in all activities performed.
• Build positive working relationships with students, faculty, staff, parents, and administration.
• Attend meetings as requested by the administration.
• Perform other duties as assigned by building administration.

This position is unarmed and does not have the power to arrest people for security breaches.

Qualifications

• Enforce school regulations and policies in a professional manner.
• Ability to maintain good working relationships with fellow employees and pupils.
• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 20 lbs.
• Ability to push/pull up to 10 lbs.
• Ability to communicate to students, parents, and staff in an acceptable/courteous manner.

Pay

Per the 2026-2027 starting pay range: $20 - 23.50 per hour.
