Job Summary
Safety Monitors in this role are responsible for creating a welcoming and safe environment for homeless adults who are unsheltered. The goal of the Weymouth Winter Shelter is to offer lifesaving shelter to unsheltered homeless adults throughout the winter months and to support safety and engagement of people who are reticent to utilize emergency shelters.
Essential Functions of Position
- Answer phone lines, transfer calls as appropriate
- Maintain a safe environment by monitoring guests and grounds for unsafe situations or conditions
- Secure guest belongings
- Orient guests to shelter expectations
- Monitor bathrooms, allow only 1 person to enter at a time and check for responsiveness
- Monitor clients for impairment
- Monitor clients in the waiting area
- Alert appropriate staff (Director, Office Manager, Nurse Manager) as to any safety concerns
- Write up incident reports as needed
- Anticipate situations that might escalate and work to de-escalate or get support when needed
- Helping to ensure order in the waiting area
- Work effectively with staff
- Remain level-headed in a stressful environment
- Respond to emergencies including overdoses
- Communicate in an effective and calm manner
- Provide excellent customer service to consumers
Professional Qualifications
- Reception, security, and excellent customer service skills
- The ability to communicate effectively with clientele and staff
- Maintain proper boundaries with clientele
- Basic computer skills and data entry skills
- Experience in human services work (preferred)
- A high school diploma or GED

- Good organization and communication skills
- Reliable
- Calm demeanor
- Must be responsible and flexible
Pay
$20.40/hour
