Safety Manager

Position Summary

Manages safety policies and ensures compliance with OSHA regulations and safety policies for Civil Underground construction. Maintains OSHA logs, inspections and various other items.

General Tasks and Responsibilities

• Conducts safety training and education programs and demonstrates the use of safety equipment.
• Maintains OSHA record keeping logs.
• Manages employee cases.
• Conducts job-site inspections.
• Maintains PPE equipment to ensure adequate supply needed for the project.
• Reviews, evaluates, and analyzes work environments, procedures to control, eliminate, and prevent disease or injury caused by chemical, physical, and biological agents or ergonomic factors.
• Orders suspension of activities that pose threats to workers' health and safety.
• Investigates accidents to identify causes and determine how such accidents might be prevented in the future.
• Monitors ventilation, exhaust equipment, lighting, and other conditions affecting employee health, comfort, or performance.
• Develops and maintains hygiene programs such as noise surveys, continuous atmosphere monitoring, ventilation surveys, and asbestos management plans.
• Collaborates with engineers and physicians to institute control and remedial measures for hazardous and potentially hazardous conditions or equipment.
• Provides new-employee safety and field orientations and develops materials for these presentations.
• Collects samples of dust, gases, vapors, and other potentially toxic materials for analysis.
• Assumes additional responsibilities as directed by division and corporate management. Travel as required to attend, but not limited to, meetings, site visits, training, etc.
• Assists with relocation as needed.

Required Skills

• Underground Specific Tasks and Responsibilities: Working knowledge of applicable tunnel safety regulations, typical shaft sinking operations, conventional tunnel construction processes, underground ventilation systems, and hazardous gas testing.
• Skills and Abilities: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, critical thinking, detail-oriented, organizational skills, problem-solving skills, and excellent communication skills.

Required Experience

• Education/Experience: Bachelor’s degree in OSH or related field, 5-10 years in underground construction experience required, and must hold Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST) certification or obtain within the first year, and OSHA 30 hr course in Construction Safety.

Pay

$120k-$180k
