Safety/Health Engineer II/III

Key Responsibilities

• Identifying workplace hazards and feasible means of abatement
• Participating in regular scheduled workplace inspections
• Developing fall protection plans
• Assisting with establishing and maintaining safety and health programs and management systems
• Providing training as necessary to ensure total safety culture is attainable
• Assisting management and supervision with the recognition and abatement of hazards
• Providing direction and technical support on compliance with OSHA standards and company procedures
• Conducting root cause accident and incident investigations as well as developing subsequent corrective action(s)
• Reviewing the effectiveness of compliance programs

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in environmental, safety, and health science or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
• Specific demonstrated experience in work place health and safety programs/oversight may be substituted for educational requirements.
• Safety/Health Engineer II - 2-4 years of experience in health and safety oversight/programs.
• Safety/Health Engineer III - 5+ years of experience in health and safety oversight/programs.
• Experience in a heavy industrial environment or shipyard preferred.
• Specific experience in lifting and handling, rigging, fall protection, confined space entry, industrial hygiene and / or ergonomics preferred.
• Technical writing skills and knowledge of OSHA and/or industry standards preferred.
• Must be physically able to lift, crawl, climb, and work in confined spaces and at heights (required).

Qualifications

• Working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and familiarity with Access required.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills required.
• Able to successfully multi-task and to plan and coordinate time dependent activities required.
• Good organizational skills, strong interpersonal skills, team building, and decision-making abilities required.
• Able to establish effective relationships with personnel in all areas and levels of the company required.
