About the role

The Thames Water Shared Apprenticeship Scheme is seeking a Health, Safety & Environment Apprentice in the West London - Guildford Area. This bespoke apprenticeship program addresses skills gaps within the supply chain, featuring a compulsory industry rotation.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, review, and execute safe systems of work.
  • Create and deliver training packages (e.g., toolbox talks & inductions).
  • Investigate and report incidents in the workplace.
  • Analyse data and present findings to the management team.
  • Undertake site visits to construction sites to check on site safety standards.
  • Review and approve risk assessments and method statements.
  • Enforce health and safety requirements.
  • Identify hazards and implement solutions.
  • Plan emergency procedures.
  • Adhere to environmental and safety laws.
  • Implement health and safety standards such as ISO 45001 etc.

Requirements

This is a hybrid role involving both office-based work and visits to construction sites, including walking around active sites and traveling between locations. Reasonable adjustments will be considered where possible to support individuals in carrying out the essential duties of the role.

  • A proactive approach, taking pride in work and taking accountability for decisions.
  • A love of variety in a role and ability to adapt to a dynamic, fast-paced working environment.
  • Ability to quickly prioritize tasks and the initiative to dive head-first into problem-solving.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, enjoying working with multiple teams.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret information and effectively communicate this to different team members and audiences.
  • Ability to visit different sites and training days.
  • Curiosity to learn quickly in a reactive and dynamic working environment.
  • Able to work in all weather conditions to serve our customers and protect the environment.
  • Able to understand and follow health and safety protocols.

Minimum Requirements

  • English and Maths at GCSE Grade 3 / D or above, or Functional Skills at Level 1 or above.

Desired Requirements

  • The passion and commitment to work in water treatment.
  • Previous related work experience and a SHEA Card are advantageous but not essential.

Key Training/College Information

K10 Apprenticeships will enroll you in the Level 3 Safety, Health & Environment Technician course and fund your qualifications through an accredited training provider. The apprenticeship duration is 24 months.

Eligibility

  • To start this apprenticeship, you must be:
  • Living in England for the last 3 years and have right to work status.
  • Not enrolled on any other courses.
  • 18+ due to site H&S rules.
  • Have a full UK Driving Licence and full access to your own vehicle.
