Ryan Companies is seeking a Safety Engineer Intern for Summer 2027 at our Atlanta site. This internship is designed for full-time university undergraduates and runs from May to August. It offers hands-on experience in construction-specific safety considerations at Ryan Companies Mission Critical project sites.

About the role

The Safety Engineer Intern supports the Safety Manager in implementing the Ryan Safety Program and serves as a technical resource for field operations. This role collaborates closely with Project Managers and Superintendents to address all health and safety issues on-site.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Project Management Team in establishing and implementing the Ryan Safety and Site Safety Program.
  • Help Project Management and Superintendents obtain and review Subcontractor Safety submittals.
  • Ensure the Ryan Safety Program remains up to date.
  • Review safety procedures with each foreman as required.
  • Provide training to craft workers on safe work procedures.
  • Conduct and document site-safety audits and inspections.
  • Distribute new and changing safety-related information and provide orientation training when necessary.
  • Review and monitor subcontractor safety activities.
  • Develop a safety culture and rapport with contractors, supervision, and craftspersons.
  • Promote employee participation in safety initiatives.
  • Communicate with all levels of personnel.
  • Monitor project safety and implement necessary changes to promote a safe working environment.
  • Attend industry safety organization meetings (e.g., OSHA, AGC, ASSP).
  • Improve safety education and training skills.
  • Communicate with client safety personnel and subcontractor safety personnel.
  • Spend 70% to 80% of time at the field site; 20% to 30% in the office.

Requirements

  • Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in occupational safety and health, safety management, construction safety sciences, construction safety management, or a related field.
  • Within 6 months to 2 years of graduating with a four-year degree in a safety-related field.
  • Able to work 40 hours per week for a 2- to 3-month term.
  • Position requires verification of employment eligibility to work in the U.S.

Pay

The hourly wage is $20–$25 per hour. The rate may vary based on factors such as location and the candidate’s knowledge, skills, and abilities.
