Safety Engineer Intern

Ryan Companies is seeking a Safety Engineer Intern for Summer 2027 at our Phoenix area site location. This full-time internship (May–August) is open to university undergraduates and offers hands-on experience in construction-specific safety at Mission Critical project sites.

About the role

The Safety Engineer Intern supports the Safety Manager in implementing the Ryan Safety Program and serves as a technical resource for field operations. You’ll collaborate with Project Managers and Superintendents to address health and safety issues on-site.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Project Management Team in establishing and implementing the Ryan Safety and Site Safety Program.
• Help obtain and review Subcontractor Safety submittals.
• Maintain and update the Ryan Safety Program.
• Review safety procedures with foremen as required.
• Train craft workers on safe work procedures.
• Conduct and document site-safety audits/inspections.
• Distribute new and changing safety-related information and provide orientation training.
• Monitor subcontractor safety activities.
• Develop a safety culture and rapport with contractors, supervision, and crafts-persons.
• Promote employee participation in safety initiatives.
• Communicate with all levels of personnel.
• Monitor project safety and implement necessary changes to promote a safe working environment.
• Attend industry safety organization meetings (e.g., OSHA, AGC, ASSP).
• Improve safety education and training skills.
• Coordinate with client and subcontractor safety personnel.
• Spend 70%–80% of time at the field site; 20%–30% in the office.

Requirements

• Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in occupational safety and health, safety management, construction safety sciences, or a related field.
• Within 6 months to 2 years of graduating with a four-year degree in a safety-related field.
• Able to work 40 hours per week for a 2–3 month term.
• Verification of employment eligibility to work in the U.S. is required.

Pay

Hourly wage: $20–$25/hour. Rate may vary based on location, candidate qualifications, and other factors.
