About the role

The Safety Coordinator will work closely with the Regional Safety Manager and National Safety Director to provide single-site safety supervision to 40-50 field employees. We are seeking a candidate who is passionate about sharing and spreading a safety culture at The Berg Group and looking to grow and advance their career within the safety function.

Responsibilities

  • Work with the field team in managing hazardous working conditions and eliminating unsafe employee activities.
  • Stay in regular contact with field staff regarding safety practices, toolbox talks, and reporting procedures.
  • Build rapport with the field so that communications are regular and consistent.
  • Assist in new employee orientation, specifically safety program training as well as curriculum development.
  • Hold field accountable to safety practices; provide spot or safety rewards per Berg’s program to positively reinforce behavior.
  • Submit weekly reports to the National Safety Director with a summary of all job site visits.
  • Restock first aid kits and other first-aid items such as eye solution and skin glue.
  • Document, investigate, analyze, and report all accidents and near misses.
  • Interact comfortably with General Contractors and seek assistance for situations outside of experience level.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Requirements

  • Handle safety equipment including replacements and certifications.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Suites.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of safety equipment, requirements, and state OSHA.
  • Knowledge of Department of Transportation (DOT) requirements/standards.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Proven talent to retain a positive brand and relationship with clients while in the field.
  • OSHA 30 certification.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Safety, Industrial/Construction Hygiene, or Occupational Safety (preferred).
  • Certified first responder (preferred).
  • Bilingual (preferred).
  • Ability to multitask and work independently.
  • Strong communication skills at all levels.
  • Problem-solving and organizational skills.

Work Environment

Sedentary work involves lifting no more than 10-15 pounds at a time and occasionally lifting or carrying. Although a sedentary job is defined as one which involves sitting, a certain amount of walking and standing is often necessary in carrying out job duties.
