About the Role
Assists Safety Manager in coordinating and implementing Safety programs to prevent, reduce, and eliminate occupational injuries, illnesses, deaths, and financial losses. Trains and presents safety processes, protocols, and requirements. Leads the Safety Committee.
Responsibilities
- Identifies by daily walks/audits and appraises conditions that could produce accidents and financial losses.
- Enforces accident prevention and loss control systems and programs.
- Assists in the implementation of safety activities with department managers, including leading inspections and training sessions.
- Conducts new-hire safety orientation program.
- Maintains a training matrix for all safety documentation and files all training records.
- Leads the Safety Committee and STOP Card Program, including follow-up on action items and monthly plant audits.
- Provides statistical data of Stop Card findings and reports monthly.
- Assists with incident tracking to provide statistical data related to occupational illnesses and accidents, including timely filing of documents.
- Promotes Safety and Health accountability within all departments.
- Provides weekly reports to supervisors on attendance at 7-Minute Trainers and delivers follow-up training.
- Performs the Safety portion of the Onboarding Program for new hires and conducts additional group or individual safety training as needed.
- Conducts Machine Safety Audits, including Lockout-Tagout (LOTO).
- Conducts Safety behavior audits for PPE and all safety processes.
- Learns and assists with Hazardous and Risk Assessment trainings.
- Conducts daily and general inspections to identify hazards.
- Performs weekly safety walks with employee engagement and reports findings.
- Acts as a liaison between the plant and vendors/contractors regarding safety.
- Maintains up-to-date Safety Data Sheets (SDS) for all hazardous chemicals.
- Provides recommendations for improving workplace safety.
- Assures safe working conditions during startups.
- Coordinates the maintenance and repair of fire protection systems.
- Ensures all signage is in place and not in need of repair/replacement.
- Manages site security.
- Maintains record-keeping and filing requirements.
- Trains new-hires and contractors.
- Conducts annual training for crews and maintenance personnel.
- Maintains and properly packages recycle wastes (e.g., bulbs, batteries).
- Performs other duties as assigned by management.
Requirements
- Commitment to safety and ability to identify safety improvement opportunities.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- General ability to express ideas and concepts clearly and concisely in written and oral form.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Ability to excel with minimal supervision.
