About the Role
The Safety Coordinator is responsible for safety reporting, training, and communications at various locations in the Division.
Responsibilities
- Ensure the proper training, monitoring, and record keeping of all employees at assigned locations (Permanent & Temporary) on all aspects of safety as required by the Plant Manager and the Recycling Division Safety Manager.
- Ensure all on-site personnel, including contractors and visitors, are in full compliance with safety policies and safe work procedures as required by Pratt’s standard operating procedures and report any exceptions to the Division Safety Manager.
- Maintain at the home base plant: Safety Inspections, Evaluations, and Training as required.
- Inspect all facility equipment, work areas, fire suppression equipment, and egress areas for compliance on a scheduled basis.
- Monitor all areas of facility housekeeping as it relates to safety on a scheduled basis at designated locations.
- Ensure all employees follow safety policies, including proper use of guards, lock-out procedures, zero-energy-state, and hazard observation (e.g., nip points).
- Assist with weekly and monthly safety reports for the Division, ensuring they are accurate and completed on time.
- Coordinate and work with the Safety Manager on safety policies and procedures.
- Perform other safety-related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- 3-5 years of production, safety, and/or operational experience.
- Bachelor’s degree or pursuing an industrial hygiene degree, or five (5) years of safety experience.
- Knowledge of lean operational processes and OSHA safety standards.
- Ability to monitor machines, equipment, and processes.
- Perform fast walk-around inspections of work areas continuously.
- Interpret information and devise troubleshooting steps to repair equipment safely and efficiently.
- Work is of medium difficulty but may be fast-paced at times.
- Ability to move quickly, be aware of surroundings and potential hazards, lift 50+ pounds (non-repetitively), climb stairs and ladders, and tolerate extreme temperatures (100°F or above, 32°F or below).
- Professional attitude and conduct, with strong multitasking, interpersonal communication, problem-solving, and time management skills.
- High degree of safety awareness and discipline.
- Display a professional and courteous attitude to coworkers, supervisors, and the public.
- Willingness to travel and work away from home if required.
- Willingness to work nights and weekends when necessary.
- Strict adherence to safety requirements and company policies as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
- Willingness to work in a team environment and assist coworkers or supervisors with other duties as required.
- Wear personal protective equipment (PPE) in designated operations and production areas as required by Pratt Safety and OSHA.
- At least 18 years of age due to the nature of the working environment.
- Flexibility to meet the needs of the business and customer demands.
- Pass pre-employment, random, and suspicion-based drug tests.
