About the role
At Pilgrim’s, safety is a condition—our team members’ well-being comes first. We’ve implemented measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19, including social distancing, physical barriers, daily temperature screens, required face coverings, and enhanced cleaning and sanitation.
Responsibilities
- Assist in handling the accident and illness program.
- Conduct hazard and risk analyses.
- Ensure completion of all occupational safety and health tasks as scheduled.
- Submit regular reports on safety and health status to senior management.
- Help management understand roles and activities in the safety and health management system.
- Assist with the Workers' Compensation Program (Partners Protection Program).
- Act as an advisor to senior management, supervisors, and the Occupational Health Department.
- Work with the Plant Safety Committee.
- Assist in implementing new safety and health management systems.
- Maintain and track the accident record system, investigate accidents, and ensure corrective measures are taken.
- Conduct monthly supervisor safety training classes (train the trainer) and supervise departmental monthly safety and health training.
- Initiate activities to maintain employee interest in safety and health.
- Conduct weekly plant safety inspections.
- Perform daily plant inspections to identify unsafe work practices and conditions.
- Assist in managing exposure control, hazard communication, respiratory protection, and hearing conservation programs.
- Ensure compliance with all state and federal laws and company policies on industrial safety and health.
- Assist the complex safety manager in setting standards for personal protective equipment and machine guarding.
- Work with the Occupational Health Department to develop an ergonomics program.
- Approve designs for new and modified equipment and inspect such equipment before operation.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Certified Safety Professional preferred.
- Minimum of five years of related experience in poultry or meat processing plants.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office); SAP experience preferred.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
- Ability to work in adverse conditions.
- Ability to work flexible days/hours as needed.
Qualifications
College degree required. Directly related experience may be substituted for degree requirements.
