About the Role

Reporting to the Health & Safety Manager, the Safety Coordinator supports and implements effective emergency response measures, risk management programs, occupational safety and health measures, and security. All roles at NewRange serve as courageous safety leaders, fostering a proactive safety and sustainability culture based on the values of health, safety, environment, and communities.

Responsibilities

  • Safety Program Coordination
    • Support day-to-day activities of the Health & Safety Department.
    • Perform regular inspections and safety audits to identify and correct hazards.
    • Develop, implement, and monitor safety and health programs addressing occupational safety risks, ensuring compliance, and minimizing liability.
    • Assist in achieving short-term objectives of the Health & Safety Department by prioritizing tasks and contributing to timely completion of goals.
    • Assist in developing and maintaining safety standards and procedures to ensure a safe working environment and compliance with applicable regulations, laws, codes, and company guidelines.
    • Assist in developing and maintaining industrial hygiene programs, including air monitoring, biological monitoring, hearing conservation, and respiratory protection programs.
  • Risk Management & Incident Investigation
    • Perform risk assessments using various methodologies and coach staff in their usage.
    • Coordinate, perform, and document incident investigations.
    • Analyze inspection results, audit findings, incident reports, and statutory requirements to identify gaps in programs and training.
  • Regulatory Compliance & Agency Coordination
    • Liaise with government regulatory agencies, including MSHA, to ensure prompt compliance with new and existing rules and regulations.
    • Assist government inspectors during site inspections and investigations.
    • Provide written reports and documentation to management regarding compliance status, incidents, and corrective actions.
    • Provide safety and health training to employees and contractors.
  • Other Duties
    • Champion all company values to build and encourage a strong safety culture.
    • Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned to meet operational needs.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in a Health and Safety role.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local occupational safety and health laws and regulations is beneficial.
  • Experience in the mining industry preferred.
  • Experience in risk assessment, emergency response, and incident command considered an asset.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to conduct incident investigations, determine root causes, and recommend or initiate corrective and preventative measures.
  • Ability to prepare comprehensive written reports for management, providing detailed safety performance data and identifying problem areas.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and collaborate across all levels of the organization.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic operational environment.

Physical Job Requirements & Working Conditions

This role requires the ability to work in both office and active project site environments, including occasional travel to operating or construction sites. Physical requirements may include:

  • Extended periods of sitting and computer use.
  • Walking on uneven terrain, climbing stairs, or accessing elevated platforms.
  • Wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE) such as hard hats, safety glasses, steel-toe boots, respiratory protection, and high-visibility clothing.
  • Exposure to varying weather conditions, noise, dust, and other typical construction or industrial site environments while maintaining a strong commitment to safety and compliance with all health, safety, and environmental standards.
