Marous Brothers Construction (MBC) is a leading Midwest firm offering integrated construction solutions. This role supports a $100M+ Student Housing project at The Ohio State University.
About the Role
As the on-site Safety Coordinator, you will champion a safe and productive jobsite at The Ohio State University's High Street location. Your hands-on fieldwork will ensure compliance with OSHA 29 CFR 1926 and company safety standards.
Responsibilities
- Lead daily jobsite walks to identify hazards and align crews with safety expectations.
- Update and execute Site-Specific Safety Plans (SSSPs), Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), and risk assessments.
- Monitor and coach teams on high-risk activities such as fall protection, trenching, crane operations, confined spaces, and hot work.
- Conduct new-hire orientations, toolbox talks, and site-specific training to foster a strong safety culture.
- Exercise stop-work authority when unsafe conditions arise.
- Investigate incidents, near misses, and property damage events, performing root-cause analysis and tracking corrective actions.
- Collaborate with superintendents, project managers, and subcontractors to maintain consistent safety practices.
- Use safety software and Microsoft 365 to log inspections, monitor trends, and generate actionable safety reports.
- Ensure subcontractor compliance with company safety expectations.
Requirements
- Strong working knowledge of OSHA construction standards (29 CFR 1926) and applicable state regulations.
- Ability to develop, implement, and enforce Site-Specific Safety Plans (SSSP).
- Experience conducting Job Hazard Analyses (JHA/JSA) and risk assessments for construction activities.
- Proven ability to perform routine and unannounced site safety inspections and audits.
- Knowledge of high-risk construction activities, including fall protection, trenching & excavation, crane operations, confined space, and hot work.
- Experience delivering safety orientations, toolbox talks, and site-specific training.
- Ability to investigate incidents, near misses, and property damage, completing root-cause analysis.
- Strong documentation skills for safety reports, corrective action tracking, and regulatory logs.
- Ability to monitor subcontractor safety compliance and enforce company safety expectations.
- Confident communication skills to coach field personnel and exercise stop-work authority.
- Strong organizational skills to manage safety efforts across multiple active projects.
- Proficiency with safety management software, mobile inspection tools, and Microsoft Office.
Preferred Qualifications
- OSHA 30-Hour Construction certification.
- First Aid / CPR / AED certification.
- Prior experience supporting commercial, industrial, or heavy civil construction projects.
- Familiarity with environmental compliance requirements (SWPPP, spill prevention, hazardous materials).
