Safety Coordinator

About the role

The Safety Coordinator implements, administers, maintains, and coordinates all IES safety policies and programs, including safety training and inspections for assigned projects. This role ensures compliance with IES, site/customer safety policies, and federal/state standards, while developing and managing safety/health initiatives to prevent occupational incidents, injuries, and illnesses. EMT or higher credentials are strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Fully support all IES, site/customer safety policies, procedures, programs, and federal/state standards.
• Ensure implementation and compliance with IES Safety Policies, Procedures, and Programs within the Communications Division and site/customer-specific requirements.
• Perform and develop safety presentations and related training as required.
• Schedule and perform documented jobsite safety audits/inspections to ensure compliance with IES, site/customer, and regulatory safety standards.
• Oversee and maintain confined space entry activities, including documentation and training requirements.
• Conduct or direct hazard identification activities and develop safety action plans to correct non-compliance issues.
• Develop processes and plans to reduce or eliminate hazards and safety incidents.
• Deliver safety new employee orientation (NEO), OSHA 10/30-hour training, and other required safety training.
• Coordinate safety training for management and field personnel on accident prevention, compliance, and regulatory standards.
• Prepare written reports and summaries on safety audits, investigations, and issues.
• Conduct and coordinate root cause investigations for recordable incidents, near misses, and vehicle incidents.
• Utilize root cause analysis to help operations implement corrective actions and prevent future incidents.
• Participate in and lead OSHA inspection processes as defined in the IES Safety Manual.
• Prepare and maintain safety-related records and reports.
• Teach, counsel, and mentor stakeholders to uphold the IES Safety Culture.
• Coordinate activities with and support site management.
• Perform other responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements

• Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in construction safety, preferably in telecommunications or electrical industry.
• Knowledge of OSHA 29 CFR 1926 Safety and Health Regulations for Construction.
• Knowledge and experience with Confined Space Entry Standards (1926.1200 Subpart AA) preferred.
• Current status as an Authorized OSHA OTI 500 Construction Outreach Trainer or CHST (Construction Health/Safety Technician) Certification preferred.
• EMT or higher credentials strongly preferred.
• High School diploma or GED equivalency required; Associate degree or higher preferred.
• Proficient computer knowledge and experience with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
• Ability to communicate effectively with project stakeholders, including field personnel, management, and customers.
• Ability to respond to safety emergencies with or without advance notice.
• Must meet Company minimum driving standards.
• Proven ability to manage multiple tasks/projects simultaneously.

• Ability to lift 50 lbs. and distinguish codes, colors, and symbols correctly.
• Maintain body equilibrium and agility to prevent falls while walking, standing, crouching, or ascending/descending stairs.
• Repetitive bending at the waist, knees, and extending arms/hands in any direction.
• Ability to learn Company and customer computer systems.
• Regular and reliable job attendance required.
