Safety Coordinator

About the Role

Reporting to the Safety Manager for the Arkansas Kraft Division, this position will help with planning, implementing, coordinating, and auditing all safety and occupational health components at AKD. The role ensures safety regulation compliance and the continued development of a safety culture.

Responsibilities

  • Help develop and maintain safety programs compliant with all federal, state, and GBP requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety program elements in the Corp Safety Audit Program.
  • Help develop and maintain Process Safety Management requirements related to mill operations.
  • Maintain open communications with hourly and salaried employees.
  • Encourage employee involvement and participation in the safety program and Safety Task Force.
  • Liaison with Safety Champions, assisting them as they work on department projects.
  • Assist in the development and securing of training materials (SDS, New Fork Truck training, 3E systems, Convergence, Disaster readiness, Active Shooter).
  • Assist with mill physical hazards audits.
  • Ensure required PPE is provided and used appropriately by AKD employees and contractors.
  • Assist in investigating all accidents, injuries, and tracking corrective action items.
  • Help with the training of First Responder, EMT, Fire Brigade, and Confined Space teams.
  • Oversee that all fire and medical equipment are maintained to respond to any emergency.
  • Perform new hire safety orientation as needed.
  • Help calibrate and monitor the condition of air/gas monitors.
  • Assist with atmospheric testing (sniffer) training for all operators.
  • Manage Convergence Accident and Training Programs.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Risk Management, or related disciplines preferred; experience in lieu of a degree may be considered.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in occupational safety and health.
  • Preferred Safety Certification: ASP, CSP, OHST, etc.
  • Full complement of leadership skills, including the ability to lead teams in a union environment.
  • Ability to develop, implement, and direct safety initiatives.
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively deliver and reinforce consistent messages at all levels.
  • Provide leadership to maintain and improve safe working conditions and good housekeeping practices.
  • Identify short- and long-range needs, prioritize them, and develop a plan to meet these needs.
