The Role
Job Summary
Under the direction of Operations Manager, the Safety Coordinator is responsible for establishing and maintaining a collaborative safety culture that adheres to all regulatory standards and beyond. The position is also tasked with developing safety policies, procedures and general processes that will assist in shaping our organization for the future.
About the Role
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in safety science, engineering or industrial hygiene discipline.
Responsibilities
Works closely with staff in engineering, human resources, legal, operations, and research and development.
Provides technical safety and operational training to production personnel.
Provide on-call evening and weekend support as needed to ensure safe and efficient 24/7 operations.
Has an understanding of a BBS (Behavioral Based Safety) Program.
Prepares written safety programs and policies.
Identifies company safety and operational training needs and develops and coordinates training programs.
Participates in new product/process reviews, including process hazard analyses, operations technicians training, etc.
Supports operations/plant engineering to implement engineering controls to minimize safety and occupational health hazards.
Supports plant personnel in selection of appropriate personal protective equipment.
Maintains safety library (e.g., videos, regulations, reference manuals).
Ensures compliance with all environmental regulations.
Writes, maintains and communicates Job Safety Analysis (JSA) and operational instructions for all processes and equipment.
Aids as necessary in implementation of a hazard communication program and preparation of reports.
Reviews process-operating procedures/records and provides input for safety and health considerations.
Understands federal and state occupational safety and health regulations and monitors regulatory changes as they occur.
Provides technical support to corporate and plant personnel to ensure compliance with applicable occupational safety and health regulations.
Audits practices and records of manufacturing plants to ensure compliance with company programs and federal/state occupational safety and health regulations.
Monitors lost-time injuries/illnesses and worker’s compensation claims.
Captures and follows up on plant safety committee meeting minutes and safety inspection reports.
Performs injury/illness and non-injury incident investigation reports and follows up as necessary.
Affords assistance in the oversight and continued development of the employee training and evaluation program.
Works closely with other departments on the overall visualization of the facility, including picture board work instructions and video training aids.

- Understanding of OSHA guidelines as they pertain to manufacturing facilities, including the comprehension and interpretation of legal precedents throughout the industry.
- Knowledge of legal requirements related to workplace safety, including accident reporting and investigations.
- Experience in reporting and developing policies.
- Capable of developing and implementing training programs.
- Comfortable in a team environment with many different cross-collaboration partnerships.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Problem solving and analytical capabilities.
- Detail oriented and strong organizational skills.
- Self-driven once broad goals and expectations have been established.

Entry to mid-level relevant experience
Skills
