Safety Carpenter

Responsibilities

• Study blueprints and diagrams to determine dimensions of structure or form to be constructed.
• Measure materials or distances, using square, measuring tape, or rule to lay out work.
• Cut or saw boards, timbers, plywood, gypsum board, or other materials to required size, using handsaw, power saw, or woodworking machine.
• Assemble and fasten material together to construct wood or metal framework of structure, using bolts, nails, or screws.
• Anchor and brace forms and other structures in place, using nails, bolts, anchor rods, steel cables, planks, wedges, and timbers.
• Mark cutting lines on materials, using pencil and scriber.
• Erect forms, framework, scaffolds, ladders, hoists, or roof supports, using hand tools, plumb rule, and level.
• Bore bolt holes in timber, masonry, or concrete walls, using power drill.
• Assemble wood or metal forms for construction of columns and walls.
• Fabricate parts, using woodworking and metalworking machines.
• Dig or direct digging of post holes and set poles to support structures.
• Dismantle wall and column forms.
• Must be willing to learn new skills, as this is intended to be a jack-of-all-trades role.

Requirements

• Apprentice certificates are required for apprentices.

Physical Demands

This is a physically demanding role on an active construction site. You must be able to:

• Work safely around heavy equipment and construction traffic.
• Frequently lift, carry, and move materials weighing up to 50 pounds alone, and use team-lifting techniques for anything heavier.
• Stand or walk for long periods, and bend, climb, kneel, and reach.
• Maintain good balance and dexterity to work safely at various heights and in tight spaces.
• Use visual acuity to operate equipment and spot hazards.
• Hear with or without assistance to understand instructions in noisy environments.

Work Environment

You’ll regularly work outdoors and may be exposed to the elements—heat, cold, rain, snow, or wind. The work environment frequently involves:

• Exposure to moving mechanical equipment.
• High noise levels.
• Dust, fumes, airborne particles, and vibrations.
• Potential electrical hazards.

You will be required to consistently wear all necessary Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and strictly follow Clark Construction's safety policies and procedures, and all applicable laws, at all locations.
