About the Role

The Safety Business Partner supports Toho Water Authority’s occupational safety and health programs through collaboration, communication, and proactive engagement with departments across the organization. This position helps implement and maintain safety initiatives by applying knowledge of current safety regulations, standards, and best practices to reduce workplace risks and promote a culture of safety. The role assists in coordinating with internal teams and external risk management partners to support compliance efforts, incident prevention, and continuous improvement initiatives. It fosters a safe and healthy work environment by building strong working relationships, promoting employee involvement in safety programs, and supporting organizational goals through occupational health and safety best practices.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct field observations, site visits, and safety inspections to identify hazards, evaluate safe work practices, and promote compliance with organizational safety policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Partner with operational departments to provide proactive safety support and guidance in both field and facility environments throughout the organization.
  • Assist the Safety and Risk Manager with the coordination and support of the Safety Ambassador Program, including employee engagement initiatives, safety meetings, and promoting a positive safety culture.
  • Participate in incident and injury investigations by gathering information, conducting interviews, documenting findings, identifying root causes, and assisting with corrective action recommendations.
  • Assist in developing and implementing measures, policies, and procedures aimed at preventing the recurrence of workplace incidents, injuries, and safety violations.
  • Develop, prepare, and distribute safety educational materials, toolbox talks, presentations, and training resources relevant to the water and wastewater utility industry.
  • Conduct periodic inspections of facilities, equipment, job sites, and work practices to ensure compliance with safety standards, policies, and applicable regulations, reports, and Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
  • Assist with logging and tracking occupational injuries and illnesses within designated reporting systems and support compliance reporting requirements.
  • Stay informed on current occupational safety regulations, industry best practices, and emerging trends relevant to the water utility industry.
  • Assist the Safety and Risk Manager with managing general liability claims and lead damage investigations to determine liability and mitigation efforts (e.g., contractor damage, sewer backups, crashes).
  • Utilize badge software and support Toho with site security efforts.
  • Analyze relevant data to identify trends and patterns to prioritize time and resources.
  • Demonstrate strong technical skills in MS Office Suite and/or other transferable technology skills.
  • Perform all other duties as required.

Requirements

  • Associate’s Degree in Occupational Safety, Occupational Safety and Health, Risk (ARM), or a related field.
  • Minimum of five years of relevant experience.
  • Relevant experience with large-scale safety programs, including supplier management and fleet maintenance.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid State of Florida Class E Driver’s License.

Qualifications

  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP), OSHA 30, or Incident Investigation Certification (preferred).

  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
